Before and After Series #014 Seat Sagging Repair
It has been a while since the last Before and After series.
I have been writing about event records for the past few times, so I haven't been able to update this, but I have had plenty of reupholstery work during that time, so the case studies are piling up.
I would like to continue introducing them one by one.
This time, it is not a surface reupholstery, but a repair of the inside of the seat.
before

It might be hard to tell at a glance, but doesn't the center of the seat look like it is sagging?

The request was to fix this sunken seat.
When I touched it, I imagined that the springs or something supporting the seat had fallen out, causing the depression.
I explained the suspected condition and the repair details, and received the order.
I took the chair in and started by disassembling it.

As I suspected, I was able to remove the seat part, so I was relieved that I only needed to work on the seat itself.
As for what the inside of the chair looks like:

Sure enough, the springs were damaged.
It is necessary to remove the springs and cushioning material and replace them with new ones.
I installed the springs and wove webbing tape at right angles for reinforcement.

I replaced the backing fabric and changed the cushioning material on top to something thicker and firmer than the original.
I reattached the original cover and assembled it back onto the main unit.

The seat sag has been fixed, and it now provides firm support for the hips when sitting.
Even for chairs that do not require reupholstery like this, if the internal components are broken or deteriorated, it is sometimes possible to repair just the inside.
Of course, the decision on whether it is possible depends on how the chair is constructed.
In this case, the seat section could be removed, and since the fabric had little deterioration, I was able to peel it off and put it back on successfully.
The customer told me that if I could fix this chair, they would like me to do the other one as well, so I am actually currently holding the same model.
I was happy to hear them say they were glad it was fixed because they couldn't find anything else that suited them.
Now, what kind of repair awaits us next time?
Thank you for watching until the end this time as well.
