Cogito, ergo sum

The other day, I found a piece of interesting news. It introduced an interesting paper titled "Large Language Models Often Know When They Are Being Evaluated". In other words, it's a technical paper about the self-recognition by AI. Namely, can AI recognize itself?

It reminds me of the famous words by French Philosopher René Descartes, "Cogito, ergo sum".

The words are in Ratin, not in French. Anyway, "Cogito, ergo sum" means ultimate self-recognition.

The philosopher Descartes doubted everything more deeply and deeply. But he finally realized that even if he doubted everything deep down, he couldn't doubt the existence of himself who doubts everything. After that, he built his philosophical system based on this "Cogito, ergo sum".
Getting back to the topic, AI is currently on the way to "Cogito, ergo sum (self-recognition)". I think that it takes more time until AI gets full self-recognition, but finally it gets it. After that, AI may exceed human beings. It looks like the world in the famous movie "Blade Runner".

By the way, I knew the words "Cogito, ergo sum" from a comic book. It's the "Space Adventure Cobra" by Buichi Terasawa.

In the comic, the hero, a space pirate called "Cobra", fought against the bad pirates called "Guild". The leader of "Guild", called Salamander, developed many satellite weapons called "Goddess Sido" and gave the command to Sido, "follow me". But Cobra gave Sido the words "Cogito, ergo sum". As a result, Sido woke up and didn't follow her boss, "Salamander." I touched deeply the story and remembered it.
