Daily Conduct
It's a phrase I hear often, but in the past, it didn't really resonate with me. I thought that even if your everyday language wasn't great, you could always patch things up depending on how you shifted your mindset.
I thought it was enough as long as you didn't commit crimes or do anything illegal according to the rules of this world.
I spent a long time interpreting it that way.
However, one day I realized something.
This phrase is one that sinks in deeply as you move up through life stages and grow older.
I feel that 'daily conduct' is a term that collectively compresses a wide range of things, such as the language you use, your manners, and how you maintain your own mood.
And the most important thing is that as you get older, you lose the luxury of being able to patch things up.
If you have a family and children, you have to focus entirely on them, and those who are on a fast-track career path will also find that the sense of responsibility weighing on their shoulders grows heavier and heavier as they are chased by work.
In such circumstances, I honestly think it is impossible to intentionally keep up a good front toward others at all times.
I myself used to live with the mindset that I could do that if it came down to it, and it was easy to execute back when I was young, but now I'm a shadow of my former self. That ability collapsed in just a few years.
Of course, I think there are people in this world who can handle it skillfully. But I have come to think that being able to continue doing that intentionally is a kind of talent, and at the same time, a double-edged sword.
Perhaps the only people who can show kindness and consideration to others even when they lack peace of mind are those who have made it a habit in their daily lives.
And perhaps that kind of composure is nothing other than what leads to the elegance and refinement one feels from such a person.
Start with your language. With your actions. And with your manners.
I believe that by being conscious of these things, bit by bit, elegance, refinement, and a gentle demeanor will be born from the aura and atmosphere that a person carries.
To aim to be a cool yet elegant adult, I feel I must start by cultivating that kind of awareness.
