The Last Summer Table
The sky has started to change. The sound of insects heard after evening has also taken on a calmer tone.
For some reason, this is the season that makes my eyes well up when I listen to songs like 'Summer's End Harmony' or 'Boyhood'.
Let's wrap up the summer dining table!
I put ice in a wooden tub and pour in the somen noodles. Then, I scatter nostalgic canned mandarin oranges and cucumbers over them.
And then, salt-grilled sweetfish.
For dessert, peaches.
I try to decorate the table by remembering the things that were lined up when I was a child. The bittersweetness, sweetness, and coolness reflect the scenes of those nostalgic days one after another. 'Boyhood' plays on a loop in my head.
I wonder if everyone is doing well.
I wonder if they have grown into good adults.
I wonder if they are feeling happy right now.
I wonder if they are sitting in front of a table like this, reminiscing about the past just as I am.
