Lilac Cup 🌸 Keika's Personal Awards (10 Tanka Poems)
Thank you all so much for participating in the Lilac Cup 💐
I have also taken the liberty of selecting some Tanka for my own personal awards.
🌸 Tsukiyo Kakashi-san
【Drinking in the wind, this water surface gives birth to tears
The cherry blossoms whisper that words exist】
The expression of drinking in the quiet spring breeze blowing over the river surface, combined with cherry blossoms whispering words that give birth to tears, feels both ephemeral and beautiful. It also brought to mind cherry blossoms fluttering down and flower rafts floating on the water.
🌸 Koredemo Haha-san
【Vanishing together with the fragments of the night cherry blossoms
The moon listened to the resolve of the two】
When cherry petals become fragments of night cherry blossoms, they feel so ephemeral and precious.
What kind of resolve did the two have as they vanished? It stirs the imagination.
And the landing on the final phrase, 'the moon listened,' really brings the story to life; I was captivated by the thought that perhaps only the moon heard the secret shared between the two.
🌸 Suko-san
【You, who worry about me, are busier
Than I am, in this spring that just won't go as planned】
You must have been blessed with wonderful, considerate seniors or bosses. People who can care for their colleagues and juniors more than themselves are truly amazing.
Seeing Suko-san's perspective, noticing this and never forgetting a sense of gratitude, was a refreshing experience for me.
🌸 Yuzu-san
【Worrying if I cut my bangs too short
I wrap a spring shawl in front of the mirror】
A spring shawl is a lovely seasonal word that lets me imagine the scene of someone gently draping it over their shoulders on a chilly spring day.
I can also adorably imagine the figure standing in front of the mirror, worrying if they cut their bangs too short, and I thought it paired perfectly with the spring shawl.
Happy Birthday, Yuzu-san! 🎂
🌸 Tateyama Ken-san
【When the bells of Nikolai echo through the sky
Spring rises in the river of my heart】
It sounds as if the atmospheric bell ringing of the Kanda Nikolai-do is being carried on the spring breeze.
Since it is a city I have a deep attachment to, it stimulated my five senses even more.
It didn't just resonate with your sense of hearing, but also made you feel spring in the river of your heart. It is wonderful.
🌸 chiyo-san
【Even if I get tired of walking down an unknown road
The canola flowers along the way cheer me on】
I think you walked down that first road with high hopes for the new places and new paths you will take from here on out.
Even if you were tired from walking or felt anxious, it is heartening that the blooming canola flowers were there to cheer you on.
A field of yellow canola flowers really gives you energy!
🌸 Beji-san
【Flowers dancing, sparrows cute and hateful
Tearing them off and throwing them, tearing them off and throwing them】
The way the sparrows are chirping in the cherry blossom tree is captured by the phrase "flowers dancing," which is adorable.
Were they tearing off the petals and throwing them, tearing them off and throwing them? The expression is lovely.
It might be a nuisance for the cherry blossoms, but "cute and hateful" is very heartwarming. I felt a gentleness that made me suddenly think of Kobayashi Issa.
🌸 Tonomura Noriko-san
【Spring, the twilight slope leading to the sea
Turning it into the courage to live right here, right now】
The spring sea and the twilight opened up my field of vision, and a scene like something out of a movie came to mind.
Twilight Slope... that could even be a title.
Watching such a scene, it feels like it would give one the courage to live.
🌸 Ayuta-san
【Thinking the farmer is near their limit,
I mix plenty of light into the soil】
I feel the conviction that even with the reality of farming, the work of tilling the soil continues.
The phrase 'I mix plenty of light into the soil' resonated with me, as it shows how you, Ayuta-san, till the soil with such care and heart.
🌸 Tsuru-san
【Flowers blooming in abundance, undefeated by the wind after the rain,
Seen here and there in the bustling town】
I felt that 'wind after the rain' really brought the poem to life.
I imagine the brave flowers that, even as they bloom in full, refuse to be defeated by the rain and wind that would scatter them.
I am always learning from Tsuru-sensei's use of literary language and classical kana usage, and I would love to use an expression like 'seen here and there' (ochikochi ni miyu) myself.
This isn't a miniature flower arrangement, but please accept this gift of flowers 💐 Congratulations.
