Alphabet Monster Design Notes e / E

What are Alphabet Monsters?

"Alphabet Monsters" are original educational materials that feature uppercase and lowercase letters designed as Pokémon-like characters.
By utilizing the shapes of the letters as monster silhouettes, we have designed them so that children can enjoy getting familiar with the alphabet.

As a design note, I will be writing about the behind-the-scenes of the production.

Ehehe

The lowercase 'e' looks like a head facing to the right.
It has a semicircular eye and a wide-open mouth.
A grinning face that oozes mischief.
Using this impression as is,
the lowercase 'e' was designed as a monster that laughs playfully.
I could have used the 'ee' sound of 'e' somewhere in its name, but
I named it 'Ehehe' based on its pronunciation.

Ehegehe

The uppercase 'E' also has the same basic expression as 'e'.
By adding similar eyes and using the top two of the three horizontal bars to represent a mouth,
it has a larger mouth than 'e', and its laugh is a bit more exaggerated.
As a result, the uppercase 'E' has
an image of a more lively personality that gets carried away, saying "Ehehe, Gehehe,"
so I named it 'Ehegehe'.
Both the lowercase and uppercase letters are monster-like creatures that laugh in a playful and suspicious way.

Both have a slightly grinning,
yet somehow lovable—
that is the kind of expression these Alphabet Monsters have.
