Major Cold: Morning Skincare [The 24 Solar Terms]
//////////////////////////////////
What are the 24 Solar Terms?
The 24 solar terms are still used today as words to describe the seasons, such as the beginning of spring, the spring equinox, and the summer solstice. The year is divided into four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—and each is further divided into six parts, with "sets" (or solar terms) and "ki" (also called "chu" or "chuki") alternating. They serve as the standard for setting leap months in the lunisolar (old) calendar, where months without a "chuki" were designated as leap months. The 24 solar terms can shift by about a day depending on the year. From the National Diet Library website

Major Cold: The coldest time of the year.
Major Cold is the 24th and final solar term of the 24 solar terms, and the 6th term of the six divisions of winter. In 2024, Major Cold runs from January 20 (Sat) to February 3 (Sat).
The term "kan-jikomi" (cold preparation), often heard in relation to miso, refers to items prepared during this period. It is said that this time of year, when the cold is severe, is most suitable for preparation because there are fewer germs in the air. Also, foods called "kan-something," such as cold mackerel, cold flounder, and cold shijimi clams, are delicious because the cold makes their flesh firm.

I'm sure many of you don't like cold water in the morning, right?
At Akyrise, we recommend using lukewarm water at "33°C" when washing your face.
This standard is based on "skin surface temperature." It is said to be slightly lower than body temperature, around 33°C. By rinsing with water at a temperature close to your skin, you protect your moisture and protective barrier, preventing the skin from drying out.
Conversely, if the water temperature is high when washing your face, you will wash away more of your precious moisturizing component, "sebum," than necessary, which leads to dry skin.

If you wash them all at once with hot water, the oil comes off quickly.
When washing your face, you only need to remove the dirt and unnecessary sebum on your skin. Washing away all the oil is a big problem!
If your face-washing water temperature is set above 40°C, please be careful!
Some people even see a change just by lowering the water temperature (that's me!). It's so economical to be able to save on utility bills and get healthy skin... how great is that (^-^)
The rinsing temperature is "33°C lukewarm water".
If you are concerned about dryness, please check the temperature of your water once. It is one of the important rules for creating healthy skin.
There are days when you might think, "It's cold today, so let's turn up the water temperature a little." On such days, add "Skin Oil" to your usual moisturizing routine.

Based on "Jojoba seed oil*" and plant-based "Squalane*," which are components close to human sebum, it is smooth, non-sticky, and easy to use. Because the oil is highly refined, there is no need to worry about oil sunburn even when used during the day. The faint cherry blossom color is the color of "Lithospermum Erythrorhizon Root Extract*" extracted from the Japanese-Chinese herb "Shikon." It has a faint scent of rosemary. *All are moisturizing ingredients.
After Major Cold comes the Beginning of Spring. Spring is just around the corner (^-^)
Because I want to have glowing skin in the spring, I use 33°C lukewarm water to wash my face, which is gentle on the skin even in the cold winter.

We would like to express our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by the Noto Peninsula Earthquake in Ishikawa Prefecture. I would like to move forward one step at a time with what we can do at Akyrise and what I can do personally.
