Those who bought the Mac mini M4 Pro during the New Year's sale made the right choice—the disappearance of the 64GB RAM configuration
I bought a Mac mini M4 Pro during the New Year's sale.
The configuration was
64GB RAM / 1TB storage.

The price was 338,800 yen.
Moreover, since it was the New Year's sale, there was also an Apple Gift Card rebate.
It was by no means a cheap purchase even at that time, but looking back now, it might have been quite good timing.
The 64GB RAM option is no longer available
After Apple raised prices, I was curious and checked the price of a similar configuration.
Then, I was surprised.
The 64GB RAM configuration is no longer available for the Mac mini M4 Pro.
To be precise, the
64GB RAM / 1TB SSD
configuration I bought at the time has disappeared from the lineup.
Since I had no choice, I checked the price for the closest configuration,
48GB RAM / 1TB SSD
.
That price is 459,800 yen.
About 120,000 yen more expensive despite lower specs
My configuration bought during the New Year's sale was
64GB RAM / 1TB SSD for 338,800 yen.
The configuration I can check now is
48GB RAM / 1TB SSD for 459,800 yen.
In other words, even though the memory capacity has dropped from 64GB to 48GB, the price has increased by about 120,000 yen.
This is quite intense.
Rather than a simple price hike, I have the impression that
“higher-end configurations have become harder to buy.”
If the 64GB configuration had remained, it might have been 500,000 to 600,000 yen
If the current 48GB/1TB configuration is 459,800 yen, it is highly likely that if the 64GB RAM configuration had remained, the price would have been even higher.
Probably in the 500,000 yen range.
Depending on the configuration, it might have been close to 600,000 yen.
Thinking about it that way, it moves quite far from the impression of a "compact and relatively affordable Mac" that the name Mac mini suggests.
In fact, I feel that the 64GB configuration might have been removed from the mini lineup precisely because it reaches that price range.
The Mac mini is no longer a "cheap Mac"
The old Mac mini used to have the image of being a "compact desktop for getting started with Mac at a low cost."
Of course, the M4 Pro model is a high-end machine, so it was never a cheap model to begin with.
Even so, the fact that
you could buy an M4 Pro Mac mini with 64GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for around 300,000 yen
during the New Year's sale is significant.
Looking at the current prices, you can no longer buy it with that same feeling.
The Mac mini, despite its name, has fully entered the professional price range with its higher-end configurations.
Those who bought it during the New Year's sale made the right choice
Looking at the prices again this time, I thought that
those who bought it during the New Year's sale made a very good decision.
In my case, I purchased it for 338,800 yen and also received an Apple Gift Card rebate.
Looking back now, I think it was a very favorable way to buy it.
At the time, I felt like, "It's expensive, but I need it, so I'll buy it."
But looking at it now, I feel like, "Maybe that timing was truly the last chance to buy."
Macs might get even more expensive from here on out
I have the impression that once Apple product prices go up, they don't easily come back down. Memory manufacturers have also announced in their guidance that there is a possibility they will double memory prices by the end of 2027.
The weak yen, component prices, AI support, memory demand, semiconductor costs. There are many reasons to consider, but from the user's perspective, the conclusion is the same.
You have no choice but to buy the configuration you want when it's cheap.
Memory, in particular, cannot be upgraded later. You cannot add more memory to a Mac mini after you've bought it either.
That is precisely why being able to buy the 64GB RAM configuration during the New Year's sale is quite significant now.
Waiting because it's expensive is not always the right answer
Apple products are expensive.
That's why we often think,
Maybe it will be cheaper if I wait a little longer,
Let's wait until the next sale,
Maybe the old model will get cheaper when the new one comes out,
and so on.
However, as in this case, waiting can sometimes lead to
price increases
or the configuration you want disappearing.
For Macs in particular, memory and storage configurations are crucial.
Since you cannot upgrade them later, you have no choice but to select the necessary configuration from the start.
If that configuration itself becomes unavailable, there is nothing you can do.
The New Year's sale was the last chance to buy the 64GB Mac mini configuration
I bought the Mac mini M4 Pro with
64GB memory / 1TB SSD configuration
for 338,800 yen during the New Year's sale.
Checking now, the 64GB memory configuration is no longer available, and even a similar configuration with
48GB memory / 1TB SSD
has reached 459,800 yen.
That's an increase of about 120,000 yen despite the lower specs.
If the 64GB configuration were still available, it might have cost nearly 500,000 to 600,000 yen.
Thinking about it that way, those who bought it during the New Year's sale really made the right choice.
The 64GB configuration of the Mac mini M4 Pro may have, in the end, been the
last chance to buy.
