I tried throwing the rumored 3-second 'Hakata no Shio' karaoke song like Mitoizumi [Tales of a Fun Meetup 216]
I keep a record of my strength training and my 'JOYSOUND National Scoring Grand Prix' karaoke scores (a total of 1,000 points across 10 songs).
Meetup with Nonosan
This time, as a special edition, I'll be sharing how my meetup went with my 'karaoke mentor' and mutual follower, Nonosan.
I was very happy that they traveled all the way from afar to join me, and that we were able to enjoy our shared hobbies of strength training and karaoke.
This is exactly what the Analects mean by 'Is it not delightful to have friends come from afar?' (Friends who share the same aspirations come from far away to learn together. How delightful that is.)
While this originally refers to academic study, it is the same in terms of learning. Moreover, it seems we have already been acquainted for a year, which I am truly grateful for.
First, strength training
After meeting up, we first headed to the training room for a workout. It seems there were many machines that even my mentor, Nonosan, hadn't seen before, which made me realize how deep this world goes.
However, neither of us was in perfect health, and there would be no point if we ended up injuring our muscles. We wrapped it up in moderation and headed to karaoke.
Enjoying karaoke
I usually only go to karaoke by myself. But a meetup with a fellow karaoke lover has a different charm than just chasing high scores.
While taking turns singing, we chatted with drink bar beverages in hand. It is truly fun to have a relationship that is different from one at work.
In the midst of that, Nonosan suddenly said, 'Hakata no Shio' is trending.'
Wait, that 'Hakata no Shio'?
Is it buzzing on TikTok or being featured on the news?
I remember Nora, a mutual follower and karaoke marathon expert, trying it... though they said they didn't know it was trending.
I tried singing 'Hakata no Shio' more than 10 times in a row
On a whim, I decided, 'Let's give it a shot!' Nora's DAM machine couldn't score it, but JOYSOUND supported it.
By the way, the official YouTube version is 6 seconds long lol.
The news reported it as a 3-second song.
It's actually quite a difficult song
As Nora-san also wrote, it seems simple at first glance, but it is incredibly hard to get a high score.
Karaoke scoring is basically about how accurately you can sing to the pitch; in short, it's a rhythm game. However, this song is too short to rack up points.
Even experts who frequently see their names at the top of the national rankings with 100-point streaks were only getting in the 70s. This alone shows how difficult it is.
First attempt.

Hmm, barely above the average score...
And since the version with the actual video (though not a person in this case lol) is more popular, we challenged it multiple times together.
This is truly FF's 'Rapid Fire' lol
And if you look closely, the singer is also Shioya-san lol

The setlist became covered in salt, just like after a sumo wrestler's ring-entering ceremony, like Mitoizumi.
It seems I sang it 11 times by myself.
Even so, that's only about a minute in total...

But I only reached 62 points, while Nonosan-san managed to get up to the 63-point range. As expected of the master!

What the two of us figured out is that the pitch for 'Hakata no' is relatively easy, but the pitch for 'shi' is difficult, and 'o' needs to be held as a long tone.
If you're interested, definitely give it a try! Bring it on!!
(Though my score isn't that high lol)
Shoshuriki, Kinoko no Uta, and so on
And then, we also challenged other commercial songs that Nora-san had tried.

The craziest one (meant as a compliment) was Miguel's 'Shoshuriki no Uta'. It's that '♪Shoshuriki~' song, but I didn't realize it was this long!
And Miguel-kun singing so happily lol
So, we ended up singing passionately for 5 hours, far exceeding our original plans. Personally, it felt like the college days of singing all night lol
Nonosan-san, thank you so much for your hard work.
I plan to hold one more karaoke marathon this month. I think I'll try Hakata no Shio and Shoshuriki as a breather.
TO BE CONTINUED...
