What about "mutual following"?
I don't think mutual following is meaningless either.

• "I like this person's way of thinking"

• "I can get inspiration from their content"
  I think mutual following to foster intimacy and interaction with such "someone who moved your heart" is one of the forms that should be encouraged.

When you want to build that kind of relationship, I think it's also OK to follow them yourself and reach out to them.

Also,when you create a new account and have few followers, I think it's OK to use mutual following to expand awareness!I think.

What I think is,once you have a certain number of followers, you should be careful about relying only on mutual following just to increase numbersI think.
