Usually in the Beginning | Weekly Short Short Note

The man was bewildered.
He was told the machine in front of him was a "future prediction device."

The display showed,
"Unexpected events in your life usually happen 'in the beginning'."

When is the beginning? A few days, or a few weeks?
That night, the man followed the device's advice and went to bed early.

The next morning, he woke up in a room on a luxurious, unfamiliar cruise ship.
When he went out to the deck, an elegant old lady smiled at him.

"Oh my, my heir, have you finally awakened?"

While still confused, the man realized he had no memory of who he was.
At that moment, the ship shook violently and split in two with a roar.

The man was thrown into the sea.
As his consciousness faded, he thought,

"It seems that unexpected events really do usually happen in the beginning..."

The next time he woke up, he was on a soft bed.
Beside him was a dignified old man.

"Oh, you have awakened, Great Emperor Giovanni."

A vast amount of memories flooded into the man's mind.
Memories of himself ruling the Galactic Empire.

Were all the events until now just a dream?
The future prediction device's prophecy had been correct.

The "unexpected event" in his life was neither the shipwreck nor the inheritance.

It was waking up as "Great Emperor Giovanni."
And that had happened right at the very beginning of his magnificent life.
