[Jimakocha Summer Festival After-Party] The night I learned Picasso's name.
Hello.
I'm Naoyuki.
The Jimakocha Summer Festival has come to an end.
I went around the stalls,
laughed,
wrote comments,
and before I knew it, I had brought home all sorts of things.
Fun memories.
New connections made.
And,
Picasso's full name.
……Why?
As a souvenir from a summer festival,
it's clearly heavier than a candy apple.
This time, I'm participating in Marie's after-party project,
"Everyone's Memory Stall."

Since we're at it, let's have Masako-san and Shiori look back on the summer festival too.
Masako-san and Shiori's Summer Festival

Shiori:
Masako-san, the Jimakocha Summer Festival is over, isn't it?
Masako:
It is.
The silence after a festival is a bit lonely.
Shiori:
There were so many different stalls.
There were funny articles, thought-provoking articles, and interactive articles too.
Masako:
Naoyuki seemed to be having a lot of fun going around, too.
Shiori:
There was a comment stamp rally, after all.
I think it became a great way to reach out to articles I usually just read.
Masako:
Festivals are mysterious, aren't they?
Even in places you'd usually walk right past, if there are lanterns lit up, you want to go inside.
Shiori:
Maybe note articles are the same way.
Because there are lanterns called projects, I can stop by the stalls of writers I didn't know before.
Masako:
That's well said.
Shiori:
Thank you.
Masako:
So, Naoyuki, which stall left the biggest impression on you?
Shiori:
The stall where you learn Picasso's full name.
Masako:
Suddenly a shooting gallery of education has started, hasn't it?
My memorable stall
The memorable stall I chose is this article by Mr./Ms. Sugawa.
Picasso's full name is, anyway, long.

① Pablo Diego José Francisco
② de Paula Juan Nepomuceno
③ María de los Remedios
④ Crispin Crispiniano
⑤ de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz
⑥ y Picasso
Isn't "Picasso" fine?💦
He was active as Picasso himself, and
I recognize him as Picasso too.
However, while reading Mr./Ms. Sugawa's article,
I thought I might as well learn it and show off somewhere.
A passion with no apparent use welled up inside me.
In the article, this long name is divided into 6 blocks,
and you learn it using rhythm and imagery.
I tried it too.
I learned ① by brute force.
I managed to get through 4, 5, and 6 as well.
For De Paula Juan Nepomuceno, I broke through with the vivid image of
a cat choking behind a department store.
The problem is number 3.
Maria de los Remedios.
For this part, I just can't get the beginning to come to me.
The cat from number 2 is still choking.
However, how am I supposed to get that cat all the way to Maria?
In my memory, the cat won't budge an inch from behind the department store.
I was stuck, so I commented to Sugawa-san, and...
The cat chokes behind the department store, deep despair. Connect from the deep place to the Mariana Trench.
They taught me this path.
I see 🤔
The cat chokes.
Deep despair.
Deep.
Mariana Trench.
Maria.
...It connected 🫨
To bring one cat to Maria, I'm traveling via the deepest trench on Earth.

However, memory is a strange thing.
Words that wouldn't stick through logic alone,
suddenly get stuck in your head,
when they become strange scenes or funny stories.
Sugawa-san's article,
was not just an article about teaching a long name.
It was a food stall where you could play by turning something hard to remember into your own story.
Because it's a festival, I tried doing things I don't usually do.
I'll be honest.
If it weren't for the Jimakocha Summer Festival,
I probably wouldn't have thought to learn Picasso's full name at this time of year.
What's perfect for summer is,
fireworks, the beach, and shaved ice.
Picasso's full name,
doesn't fit into any of those.
Even so,
when it's lined up at a festival stall,
you feel like taking on a little challenge.
Reading a theme you wouldn't normally read.
Writing a comment you wouldn't normally write.
Seriously learning a name you wouldn't normally learn.
Being able to challenge myself with so many things I wouldn't normally do,
might be the part I enjoyed most about this summer festival.
To the organizers, Jimanyan and KOTAYA-san.
To Marie-san, who supported the festival as a sponsor.
And to everyone who opened their own stalls.
Thank you for the fun time.
And, the Picasso full name I learned

Shiori:
So, Naoyuki, can you say the whole thing now?
Naoyuki:
Of course.
I got pretty good at saying it during the festival.
Masako:
Only during the festival?😒
Naoyuki:
Yes.
Shiori:
Then, please do it here and now.
Naoyuki:
Pablo Diego José Francisco...
Masako:
And what comes after that?😒
Naoyuki:
Behind the department store, a cat choked...
Shiori:
You're reciting your mnemonic, not the name.
Naoyuki:
From there it turns into deep despair, to the Mariana Trench...
Masako:
Where did Picasso go?😩
Naoyuki:
I learned it!💦
I certainly did learn it once.
However,
once the festival ended, I forgot it.
It's just like that thing.
The one where you cram until you think you're perfect the night before a test,
but the moment you hand in your answer sheet,
it all just vanishes.
Picasso's full name
was my summer festival-exclusive knowledge.
But strangely enough,
even though I forgot the name,
I still remember the cat choking behind the department store,
and the night that led from there to the Mariana Trench.
I think that's probably fine.
You don't need to remember every single detail
of your summer festival memories.
As long as there are moments left
that you can look back on and smile a little.
……That said,
I'd like to try remembering it again
by next summer.
Not by cramming in one night this time.
If possible, I'd like to take about two nights.
To remember this summer festival, rather than Picasso's name.

Thank you for reading until the end.
