Cunning Falls | Weekly Short-Short Note

"The buttered side always landing face down is the universe's cunning malice."

Dr. Yakumo, a physicist, believed this to be true.

Every morning, he would drop his toast on the floor, shout
"The butter is face down again!"
, and get yelled at by his wife, Reiko.
"Who do you think has to wipe the floor!"

The doctor burned with obsession.

A toast holder with a center-of-gravity adjustment device, an air resistance control fan, and a table equipped with rotation prediction sensors.
The laboratory was filled with giant machines designed to control these cunning falls.

However, the result remained the same.
The buttered side always landed face down.

One morning, the doctor quietly prepared his toast and dropped it from the edge of the table.

The bread danced through the air, spinning half a turn.

What landed on the floor was the side without butter.

"Look, Reiko! The law has been broken!"

Reiko looked at the floor and sighed.

"Yes. But, the strawberry jam spread on the back of the buttered side is perfectly stuck to the floor."

Dr. Yakumo realized that at the moment of
victory, the 'definition of defeat' had been updated.
