First Love - Autumn Memories
First Love - Autumn Memories
The Encounter

When I was in kindergarten, a cool older boy moved into the neighborhood.
We became friends after playing together in the park.

We became close, and he started coming over to my house to play.
Since I am an only child, my mother seemed happy about it too.
Cooking Practice

Since the boy started eating dinner at our house often, I learned from my mother and practiced cooking.

Did I do it right?
I felt a bit shy and couldn't look him in the face.

Autumn Tree-Lined Street
There are street trees near my house, and the autumn leaves are beautiful.

When I placed in the regional Aikido tournament, my older brother praised me, saying I was amazing.

One autumn, I suddenly started feeling my heart race whenever I was near my older brother, whom I had always thought was so cool.
What is this feeling?
Confession
When I became a middle school student, I gathered my courage and confessed my feelings.

My older brother looked very troubled and said, "Let's date when you're an adult."
I cried a lot, but somehow, my older brother was crying too.
Things were complicated for a while, but we eventually went back to being the close friends we were before.

The following year, I caught a falling leaf and playfully tried to put it in my older brother's mouth, and he looked troubled just as I expected.
The most beautiful memory
That year, there was an autumn leaf illumination event planned by the local shopping district.

It was so beautiful that I couldn't believe it was the same street we always knew.
It was canceled from the following year due to COVID, but it remains my most precious memory.
Farewell
In the autumn of my older brother's third year of high school, he came to see me.
While walking along the tree-lined street, he told me that he had been accepted to a university abroad and would be leaving Japan after graduation.

I was so shocked that I couldn't stop my tears.
However, after a few months, I finally sent him off with a smile.
I wonder if he is doing well now?
This is the memory of my first love.
I always post images generated on the fly
Since I don't have the skills to draw or edit, I always post images generated on the fly.
I used to have photography as a hobby, but lately, due to various circumstances, I haven't been able to go out and take pictures.
Even so, thanks to generative AI, I am able to continue creating.
Combining with photos
I have a lot of photos I stocked up on before, so this time I decided to try combining photos and illustrations.
The background for this illustration is this photo of illuminated autumn leaves.

The camera I used to take the picture is the one that appears in this profile picture of tamaga wa-san; it is a palm-sized compact camera, but because of that, I can get as close to the subject as I want on my own two feet to take the shot.
(I apologize for the rude introduction; I will correct it if there are any issues.)
It is a simple camera without a zoom function, but because of that, I can take straight photos of exactly what I see.
Increasing the contrast
First, since the lights in the photo are prominent, I will paint over them during retouching to make them less noticeable.

Since I am combining it with anime-style art, I will darken the entire image and crush the blacks while increasing the contrast to reduce the amount of detail.
Remove the background from the illustration.
This is the illustration I used for the combination.

I removed the background from the illustration and moved the two figures slightly apart since they were too close.
It would be cold in short sleeves, so I painted them to look like they are wearing long sleeves.

Combine the illustration and the photo.

Render again.
I determined the denoising strength so that the AI could make corrections while preserving the atmosphere of the photo.

I wonder if the finished product is better than the original illustration, but I am satisfied because I created a piece that I put my own hands into.
Yoshimaru-san and all the executive committee members, thank you for organizing this project.
I am participating in this WAKU2-Fes.
This is a fun project where anyone can post articles about AI illustrations, and submissions are accepted until 23:59 tomorrow.
I was worried about whether an old guy like me, who usually writes difficult-looking articles, should participate in this project, but since the creators I know are also participating, I decided to take the plunge and post.
I originally started this note to organize my own knowledge, but it's interesting how projects like this lead to various encounters!
I don't think this work would have been completed if it weren't for this project.
Thank you to all the executive committee members.
