I'm Poofing Away | Amano Writing Club
Even though it was a day off, I had no time to rest.
After a late breakfast, I did the laundry and cleaning.
I had a light lunch, went shopping, and spent time with the kids.
Ignoring me, my family members were all spending their day off in their own ways.
A housewife doesn't have that luxury.
I replied to work emails between chores, handled miscellaneous tasks, and before I knew it, it was already evening.
I brought in the laundry, folded it, and prepared dinner.
After a somewhat restless dinner, I finally sat down on the sofa.
But there was still more to do. I had to wash the dishes and prepare for tomorrow.
I had to scrub the bathtub and fill it with hot water... It never ends.
I stopped thinking about what I had to do.
Ah, I want to go poof. Like a ninja, I want to vanish like smoke, without anyone noticing.
I'm sure that among those in the world who have run away from home or gone missing, there are quite a few who have faced a situation like this.
In my case, of course, I don't really want to disappear forever. I just want to be alone for a little while.
I stood up abruptly and said to my family, 'I'm just going to the convenience store.'
It wasn't a lie. I really am going to the convenience store.
On the way there, I ducked into a cafe.
I ordered a coffee and sat at a window seat. Fortunately, there were no familiar faces among the customers. No one spoke to me.
My smartphone was in my bag. I just drank my coffee.
I looked outside. People were walking. Cars were driving by. I am here.
It felt as if I were watching television.
In the world outside my window, no one needs me right now.
Just ten minutes.
That is all I need.
I chanted, 'Art of Invisibility.'
As I erased my presence,
and the coffee began to run low,
I realized something.
It is true that I am busy.
It is also true that I am prioritizing what must be done.
But perhaps I could find a way to be a little more creative with how I do things.
Perhaps I could let go of perfectionism and compromise somewhere.
Realizing such an obvious thing
is thanks to this coffee.
I force myself to believe that to ease my guilt toward my family.
I finished my coffee and stood up.
I stopped by a convenience store, bought some milk, and went home.
'You're late.'
'Yeah, I made a little detour.'
It's not a lie.
But for a brief moment, I had disappeared.
'Hey, Mom.'
Back in my daily life, the clumsy ninja was
immediately swarmed by her children.
I would like to participate in the Amano Writing Club.
