A Troublesome Person | Unrequited Love Literature Club
I know I shouldn't say things like it's a hassle. After all, it's my job.
I let out a small sigh at the notification sound from LINE. "Thank you for your hard work today. The materials were very easy to understand." The message was sent by a male employee two years my junior. He is a new hire, and I am in the position of mentoring him.
It seems he wants to discuss the next task following my presentation yesterday. I have to reply. But what should I say? Just saying "Thank you" is too blunt. On the other hand, using emojis feels strange.
He is more serious than me and always polite. Yet, sometimes he shows a strangely mature expression. If you exclude the fact that he is younger, he actually has the looks and personality I like.
Lately, the time I spend thinking about him has been increasing. That is what's troublesome. "Thank you for your hard work today. Thank you." In the end, I sent a safe reply.
Three minutes later, another notification sound. "Next time, please let me know if you have any book recommendations." Talking about books? I am certainly curious about what kind of books he reads. But I thought any further interaction would be going too far, so I held back from replying.
The next day during lunch break, he came over to me.
"About yesterday's matter, I borrowed this from the library." In his hand were books that seemed useful for the project proposal and a novel I had read a few months ago.
He remembered our conversation.
"Is it interesting?" "I'm only in the beginning, but the protagonist's words and actions are captivating, aren't they?" Looking into his eyes as he spoke so seriously, I almost forgot we were at the office.
「And then, about this material...」
"You are a troublesome person." As I said that, I didn't even understand myself what was so troublesome about it. I can feel my cheeks getting hot.
And there was one more thing I realized. It seems I like things that are troublesome.
