The story of how I went to get my smartphone checked because it was acting up and ended up in a terrifying situation
I had felt it was acting up lately, but finally, the Siri on my smartphone started ignoring my calls.
It seems it wasn't picking up my voice properly, and even phone calls had become unreliable.
Feeling desperate, I went to the shop early in the morning, only to find a customer yelling at a staff member.
When I was guided to the counter, the staff member dealing with that customer tried to be considerate by saying, "There are other customers here, so could you please lower your voice..." but because of that, the customer's anger shifted to me, and they turned on me with a ferocious look, snapping, "Are you saying I'm bothering you!?"
I chose my words carefully to avoid adding fuel to the fire, explaining that Siri wasn't responding and asking for their cooperation so it could be fixed immediately.
However, because my intonation of "Siri" was off,
"My butt is acting up, so could you please cooperate?"
I suddenly found myself in a bizarre situation where I was complaining about my butt's malfunction and asking a stranger for help.
After a few seconds of silence, the customer
"Your butt is what?"
asked, so I replied,
"It's in a desperate state."
At that moment, I must have been recognized by everyone around as someone with a desperate butt.
On top of that,
"It stopped answering me even when I talk to it since yesterday"
I continued, which led to a situation where my head seemed even more desperate than my butt.
To the customer who said it couldn't possibly answer, I said,
"It probably just doesn't realize it. If you call out to it, it will answer you properly."
I spoke earnestly about how it could tell me various things like tomorrow's weather and information about nearby shops. However, the more politely I spoke, the more the customer's face stiffened.
Every time I explained about Siri, I was falling into a terrifying situation where I was becoming a crazy person with a knowledgeable butt.
In the end, thinking that since she was an elderly woman she might not know about Siri, I said out of kindness,
"It will definitely answer, so why don't you try taking it out?"
Because I asked her to take it out, she thought I meant for her to expose her butt, and she began to feel that her personal safety was at risk.
"Why would I show you my butt..."
With the customer saying that, I finally realized my own foolishness. The customer who had been so energetically venting her anger at the staff until just a moment ago now had a look of fear in her eyes.
Reflecting on my words and actions belatedly, it was clearly a matter for the police.
When I turned my face to the staff members, realizing what a mess I had made, they were looking down and trembling.
The staff member who had been yelled at in particular was gripping their own arm with great force to endure it, like a ninja inflicting pain on themselves to fight off sleepiness, for fear that if they burst out laughing, they would trigger the customer's wrath.
Now I had no choice but to show the evidence.
The fact that Siri wasn't responding had flown out of my head, and I tried desperately to activate it, so
"Hey, Butt! Hey! Hey! Butt!"
I had turned into a cheerful suspicious person talking lightly to my butt. If only Siri had answered me at that moment, would the result have been different?
The customer must have decided to leave this place and get away from the crazy person.
"I can't stay in such a terrible shop. I'll go to another proper shop," she said, uttering a line that, if spoken in the presence of a great detective, would surely mean I wouldn't see the next morning's sun, and she began to pack her things.
I became anxious about whether I was included in that "terrible shop."
As she left, she spat out, "I'm going to report all of you to the head office," and walked out.
Since she said "all of you," there is a high probability that I am included.
Along with the complaint about the staff, will I be reported as "a creepy customer with serious problems with their head and butt was left running wild in the shop"?
[Postscript]
It is easy to imagine that a very awkward time flowed after this.
The staff member in charge of me knew it was Siri, but apologized, saying they were sorry they couldn't intervene.
The staff member who had been yelled at went to the back while letting out strange noises, and did not appear again after that.
I was worried that they might be shedding tears of frustration from being yelled at, so I told them not to worry about me for now and asked them to check on the staff member, but
"They are crying in a sense, but they are fine"
was the reply I got.
Weekday mornings are recommended because there are surprisingly few customers.
