Hello, this is Haruty.

Today, I'm talking about how "studying as an adult
changes your life much more."

This is a bit of a story from the past, but...

Triggered by the bullying I experienced in junior high,
I desperately wanted to change my life,
so I dedicated my youth entirely to studying.

I always carried around vocabulary books and class notes,
and I would just memorize things endlessly,
covering them with red sheets and scribbling with a pen.

Thanks to my efforts, I managed to slip into
a certain national university with a deviation score over 70.
Then, I got a job at a top-tier company in Marunouchi, Tokyo.

So, did my life change significantly?
The answer was "NO."

The kids who bullied me in junior high
were living lives that weren't all that different.

They went to decent universities as usual,
got jobs at decent companies as usual,
and got married and had children as usual.

Embarrassingly enough,
I thought that if I just had a high academic background
and worked at a big company, I could get way ahead.

I made that my only motivation for living,
and that's how I was able to overcome the hell I went through.
"Just you wait, I'll be the one laughing in the end,"
I always told myself.

But when I opened the lid on reality,
I'm always looking for discounted meat at Seiyu,
and I'm living in a somewhat cramped and inconvenient house
while just putting up with it.

Of course, there are plenty of people at the company
with higher academic backgrounds than me, too.

Complaining about rising prices just like everyone else,
getting angry about pointlessly high taxes,
and holding back on things you want.
They live perfectly ordinary lives, too.

On the contrary, everyone is working tons of overtime
and is exhausted, with their spirits worn down.
Before my daughter was born, I was also
a 75-hour-a-month overtime athlete in accounting.



When I opened the chat at 1:00 AM
to contact a senior colleague,
they had a green light on too (online lol).

“Oh, you’re still at it, [Name]? lol
I’m so sorry. The figures I’m supposed to submit
first thing tomorrow morning aren’t finalized yet...”

I would have conversations like that in the middle of the night,
hushing my voice so I wouldn’t wake my husband
who was sleeping nearby.

Both I and that senior colleague. We didn’t throw away
our youth for a life like this.
Honestly, I think the cost-performance is terrible.

What I want to say is this.

“Because I don’t have a degree...”
“Because I didn’t study at all when I was young...”

Those differences don’t matter at all.

If anything, studying as an adult,
studying to “earn for yourself,”
changes your life much more.

Just by acquiring knowledge and putting it into practice,
you can easily surpass even
“highly educated elites” like me.



I’m in my 9th year as a working professional now,
but after a full 8 years, my fixed salary is only
50,000 yen different from this year’s new graduates.



Yet, when I learned business on my own and practiced it,
I achieved results of 200,000 yen a month in my 4th month of posting.
What is this, some kind of cheat code?

Do you know this data?
It’s data released by an organization
called the Persol Research and Consulting Co., Ltd.

Looking at the red-boxed area,
“60% of Japanese people do not invest in themselves outside of work”
apparently.

Moreover, 42% say they will never invest in themselves
(= they have no intention of growing).
That is what they say.

Japan is by far the worst
among other countries.



This is a massive opportunity.
Because more than half of Japanese people
have given up on growing themselves
after becoming adults.

And the “study” required to earn money as an individual
seriously requires no memorization.
You don’t have to sit at a desk
and frantically scribble things down to memorize them like I did in high school.

Just by listening to audio over and over,
it gets sufficiently input into your brain,

In fact, you can even
cheat openly while doing it.
Honestly, it's a world where you can get results
just by 'having' usable information.

Moreover, since the barrier to entry on the internet is low,
it's full of people who don't have any real equipment and
show up wearing nothing but 'short sleeves, shorts, and flip-flops'.

Even without fighting, they'll just freeze and leave on their own.
Honestly, you can win just by having the right equipment (=knowledge)
and putting it into practice.



It's that kind of world, so
things like your educational background or whether you're good at studying
don't matter at all.

Forget about how your life has been so far,
or whether you'll be able to do it,
throw away all those doubts,
and just get your hands on the 'right equipment (=knowledge)'.
