USB Flash Drive Review: Transcend JetFlash 890 32GB
Review of the Transcend JetFlash 890 32GB
While reviewing dual USB flash drives recently, there was one model I wanted to review as well. That model is the Transcend JetFlash 890, which I am reviewing this time.
Catalog Specifications (Manufacturer's Published Values)
The catalog specifications are: width: 14.3mm, length: 28.6mm, height: 8.6mm, weight: 3g
It has a metal body. It supports both USB-A and USB-C. The read speed is not publicly disclosed.
Benchmark Test (CrystalDiskMark)
Looking at the test results, it has JetFlash 790-like performance characteristics. I think the sequential speed is satisfactory for practical use. At the same time, the random speed is also solid for a USB flash drive, so I think it has performance that can be used for all-around purposes.
JetFlash 790Compared to the , there is some performance variance, but if you consider it a difference in manufacturing lots, I think it is safe to call it a dual USB version.

Capacity/Read/Write Test (H2testw)
Looking at these test results, it had similar characteristics to the JetFlash 790. I think it is safe to say that the internals are equivalent to the JetFlash 790.
In particular, the fact that there is little drop in write speed is a performance common to these models, and I think it has a speed that does not make you feel dissatisfied when using it.

Ubuntu Installation/Boot Test
Installation (Write) Test
The installation took 16 minutes and 29 seconds. The overall average for verified USB flash drives is 24 minutes and 7 seconds, so the result is in the faster-than-average class.
The reference speed is 20.22MB/s.
Boot (Read) Test
The boot took 49 seconds. The overall average for verified USB flash drives is 2 minutes and 24 seconds. This is also classified as faster than average.
The reference speed is 163.27MB/s.
Other Good Points and Points of Concern
Good: The cap can be used on both terminals
Concern: The body has uneven surfaces, but it is a bit slippery, perhaps because it is a metal body
Since it is a compact body in the first place, I think the design ingenuity, such as providing a strap hole in the uneven part, is very good, but on the other hand, when using it with USB-A, there is not enough grip for the fingers, so it is somewhat slippery.
Transcend JetFlash 890 32GB Verification Results Summary

In summary, the performance and other aspects are as follows.
File Read - ★★★☆☆ (Average among USB flash drives)
File Write - ★★★☆☆ (Average among USB flash drives)
App Installation - ★★★☆☆ (Average among USB flash drives)
App Boot - ★★★★☆ (Faster than average among USB flash drives)
Cost Performance - ★☆☆☆☆ (On the expensive side among USB flash drives)
* Cost performance is evaluated based on Amazon prices as of February 24, 2025.
In terms of cost performance, it was 86.66 yen/GB. Since the average cost performance price is 36.33 yen/GB, unfortunately, it falls into the expensive category. Since quite some time has passed since it went on sale, one could say that is to be expected.
After finishing the verification test for the Transcend JetFlash 890 32GB
The reason I wanted to test this model as a dual USB flash drive is that while testing several similar products, I found a product that I thought might be an OEM of this model, so I decided to test it this time. If I have the opportunity, I am thinking of writing a comparison article on dual USB flash drives.
