I realized that reducing is also a way of organizing... [Organizing Adult Time, AI Life Design Techniques #14]

When we talk about organizing, I feel it's easy to think of it as adding something.

Adopting new tools.
Learning convenient methods.
Moving yourself closer to a future version of yourself.

Until now, I think I have also tended to think in those terms, if anything.

But recently, I've come to feel that it's not just that.
There may be times when reducing or narrowing things down is more necessary for me now than adding.

I reviewed the things I was using

Lately, I have been reviewing several subscriptions.

It wasn't that I wasn't using any of them.
They were things I was actually using, and there was an aspect of feeling secure just by having them on hand.

But is that sense of security really necessary for me now?
Is what I'm getting back worth the amount I'm paying?
When I thought about it that way, I wanted to stop and take a look at them once.

As I looked through them, I also noticed that there were things with similar roles overlapping, or free alternatives available.

It's not just about whether I'm using them, but how necessary they are to me right now.
I think that re-questioning was the biggest part of this review.

Rather than letting go, it's more about reorganizing into a form that suits me now.
That feeling might be closer to the truth.

Reducing was not a negative thing

Reducing was not a negative thing at all.
Rather, I think it was about reorganizing the form in order to keep going.

In life, work, and learning, before you know it, the things you carry gradually increase.
That in itself is not a bad thing.
However, I realized that continuing to carry everything that has increased doesn't always suit who I am now.

Instead of moving forward while holding onto everything, organizing it to an amount that suits me now.
Sometimes that makes it easier to keep going without strain.

I think that when we encounter new tools and services, it is just as important to organize how we hold onto things as it is to increase them.

There are times when you organize by adding, and times when you organize by reducing.
Now, I have come to accept that more naturally than before.

Into a form that suits me now

From now on, I hope to continue organizing little by little, looking at the form that suits me now, without being distracted only by increasing things.

Organizing may not just be about adding something, but also about quietly untangling the things we were carrying too much of.

With that in mind, I want to continue organizing my life and work in a way that feels sustainable...
