Things to Prepare as a Foundation Before Using Generative AI... [Organizing Adult Time, AI Life Design Techniques #13]
Last time, I wrote about how I felt that what is important when using generative AI is not just using it for convenience.
Things to check before inputting.
Things to review before publishing.
Being able to think about those two things separately was, for me, a not-so-small step in organizing my thoughts.
As I advanced my learning from there, I began to be concerned about something else.
That is, before deciding how to use generative AI, what kind of mindset should I have when using it?
Before how to use it, there is how to approach it
When learning about generative AI, it is easy to focus on its functions and how to utilize it.
What can it do?
How much can I entrust to it?
How can I use it more efficiently?
Of course, those are important things too.
However, that might not be enough on its own.
That feeling has been emerging little by little.
As I continued my learning, the existence of philosophies, principles, and guidelines surrounding AI began to come into view.
Not just using it because it is convenient, but how does it affect people?
Is fairness being maintained?
Is it in a form that can be used with peace of mind?
I learned that such perspectives are layered in the background.
At first, it felt like a bit of stiff language.
But as I read on, my impression changed.
Perhaps this is not a distant story.
I began to think that for people who use AI in their daily work and life, these are ideas that quietly support their foundation.
Even talk of large systems always comes back to the work at hand
When I encountered terms like new AI laws and guidelines, at first it felt like a story a bit removed from me.
Words like systems and laws give the impression of a large framework somewhere.
For a non-engineer like me, it might be even easier to feel that way.
However, when I thought about the meaning of engaging with that content, I felt that in the end, it always comes back to the work at hand.
For example, when receiving someone's words.
When organizing the content of a consultation.
When refining a text.
If you are going to use generative AI in such situations, convenience alone is not enough.
I believe we must also consider whether the way we use it is reassuring for the other party.
Perhaps knowing the rules and principles is not about restricting your freedom to use it.
Rather, it is more like having a map to use it with peace of mind.
That is how I feel about it now.
Knowing what you must not do.
That is, of course, important.
But more importantly, I realized that focusing on what kind of attitude to adopt so as not to lose trust is what matters.
I thought that was where I should turn my attention.
Things I want to prepare in advance precisely because I am a non-engineer
I am not an engineer.
I am not particularly tech-savvy either.
That is precisely why, when I engage with generative AI, I want to prepare a foundation for using it with peace of mind before I focus on mastering it.
Rather than being pulled along by convenience, it suits me better to pause and verify things as I go.
Is this way of using it okay?
Is this way of receiving it correct?
The time spent thinking about such things is also a part of important learning.
Whether in writing work or in situations where I am listening to someone else, as long as I am dealing with someone's words or information, there must be a sense of care.
Learning generative AI is also about learning a new tool.
But I feel that it is even more a time to think about how to interact with that tool.
That is how I feel now.
Regardless of whether one is knowledgeable about technology, I think it is fine to prepare the attitude for using it with peace of mind in advance.
In fact, precisely because I am a non-engineer like myself, I want to hold onto that part without leaving it ambiguous.
Learning, to steady the foundation of practical work
I cannot master everything I have learned immediately.
However, I feel that being exposed to philosophies, principles, and guidelines quietly steadies the foundation of my daily practical work.
It may not be a noticeable change.
But it might be these foundational parts that have an effect later on.
Not to move faster, but to continue without wavering.
Not to know more, but to continue using it with peace of mind.
I would like to continue learning in this way, little by little, from now on...
