10 Things That Are Impossible No Matter What (ADHD Makikura Edition)
#10 Things That Are Impossible No Matter What
I decided to jump on the bandwagon after seeing Snow Honda and Maiton-san write about this.
This is specialized for Makikura, who has been diagnosed with ADHD. (With a tendency toward inattentiveness as a primary trait)
⚠️ This does not apply to everyone with ADHD. Also, just because these apply to you does not necessarily mean you have ADHD.
Some of these are unrelated to ADHD.
1) Cannot remember where I put things
I especially cannot remember when I put something down unconsciously. In other words, I lose things often. The only way to search is to 'retrace my steps.'
When something goes missing, the culprit is usually Makikura (lol).
Let's try to remember to put things back where they belong (obviously).
2) Cannot remember if I did something
This also happens when I do things unconsciously or as part of a routine, leading to thoughts like, 'Wait, did I do that?' I wander in a world of 'I think I did, but maybe I didn't...' (lol).
And because I forget that I did something, I tend to leave things 'half-done.'
To all the 'leave-it-on' folks, be careful with electricity and gas ⚠️
3) Cannot multitask
If I am asked to do B while I am doing A, it's game over. If it's a verbal instruction, it's highly likely to be game over.
It's a pattern where I either forget B by the time I finish A, or I interrupt A to start B and then forget about A.
Write notes as much as possible and stick them where you can see them. It's also a good idea to ask people to remind you again later to make sure you haven't forgotten.
4) Cannot match faces to names
Basically, I cannot remember people's names and faces. It's impossible unless I repeat it many times or it makes a very strong impression. I often can't even remember famous celebrities. I might see them and think, 'Oh, I know this person.'
For people you need to remember, write down their name along with an episode from when you interacted with them.
5) Calculation is very slow (or rather, impossible)
There is a high possibility of making mistakes even with addition and subtraction. And my calculation speed is incredibly slow. Since careless mistakes are my standard operating procedure, I cannot trust my own brain (lol).
Let's use a calculator. When you don't have a calculator, double-check. Triple-check is even better.
6) Cannot remember roads or locations
I can't really remember roads or building locations, even in my hometown or nearby areas where I've lived for over 20 years. It's a mystery how some people can remember them to some extent after going there just a few times.
Let's use a navigation system.
By the way, even with a navigation system, I still take the wrong turn (oops).
7) Cannot separate fish bones from meat
When eating fish, I cannot skillfully remove only the bones from my mouth. Therefore, I need to perform a dissection on the plate to separate the meat from the bones, but I have never succeeded in dissecting it cleanly.
I even wish that all the fish in the world had no bones.
8) Cannot do a seated forward bend
First of all, the moment I sit on the floor with my back straight against the wall, my legs start to go numb. And I can barely lean my body forward at all. The starting position is basically the finish line for me (lol).
9) Cannot eat spicy food
I don't understand the desire to add extra spice or endure pain just to eat something. It definitely kills my mouth, throat, and anus.
Even when I try my best, I stick to mild kimchi with low spice.
At CoCo Ichibanya, I go all-in on the sweetness, which makes people recoil. (The magical 'sweetening sauce' is essential.)
10) Cannot become a minimalist
I admire clean, simple rooms with few belongings, but for some reason, my room is always overflowing. I can't throw things away thinking 'I might use this someday,' and then the items (and their existence) are completely forgotten by their owner (me). (Poor things.)
And since I'm bad at tidying up, I shove everything into the closet when things get desperate (lol). There's no doubt I have way too much stuff. On days when it looks clean at first glance, the inside of the closet is definitely a 4D pocket ( ˙꒳˙ )
How was it?
Maybe these are surprisingly relatable things (´>ω∂`)
However, if these happen too frequently, it will highly likely interfere with your daily life and work. As a result, I ended up with an ADHD diagnosis (lol).
If you are experiencing the same struggles and they are causing issues in multiple areas of your life, or if you feel like life is just too hard, it might be a good idea to consult a specialist (Dr.).
I think just understanding your own traits and trying to act accordingly can be somewhat effective in making life a little easier.
If ADHD medication works for you, it might make life even easier.
I don't take medication because the side effects were tough for me, but I manage somehow and I'm getting by (lol).
However, I do think I get scolded or exasperate people more often than others. (That's just how it is.)
It's easy to fall into self-loathing, but some things are just impossible no matter what, so when I mess up, I just have to apologize sincerely (-人-)
So, I hope you've learned a little bit about what ADHD (in my case) is like ( -`ω-)👍🏻✨️
