Extra Edition: Asset Building - note as a 'Trial Sole Proprietorship'
Hello, this is Yu's mom.
I am grateful for the stability of being a company employee. But...
“I want to increase my assets faster.”
“I want to try being independent someday.”
“If only I could work at my own pace while raising children...”
Don't you have vague thoughts like these?
As someone who finally surpassed 30 million yen in assets while balancing raising three children and working full-time, I was exactly the same.
While close seniors and colleagues were changing jobs one after another, I felt impatient, wondering, “Is it okay to stay like this?” or “Is it okay for me to just be in the same place, doing the same job?” That was when I jumped into the creative world of note.”
By taking on the challenge in this unique space, I started to see things clearly.
1. Just like a publisher! The fun of creating and publishing content from scratch
I was a professional at just watching social media and had almost no interest in sharing my own information. That was when I started a challenge from scratch on note: “writing and posting articles based on my own experiences”.
At first, I kept hitting walls, thinking,
“What should I write about?”
“How can I convey this so people will read it?”
I realized that if the theme setting, key points of the message, and the concept of what I want to convey aren't organized, it won't get across what I'm trying to say.
So, here is what I did.
Writing down my topics all over Excel or in a doodle pad my children don't use.
I looked back on the most intense 5-6 years of my life, recalling them chronologically, and organized my thoughts as if I werebouncing ideas off a wall.
Thanks to this work, my direction and what I could share became clear. Of course, I didn't get it perfect on the first try; in reality, I repeatedly adjusted my direction and concept while continuing my writing activities.
Once the writing activities actually began, it was truly trial and error at first.
Days of trial and error began, trying to figure out how to turn my thoughts into writing that would reach readers. And as I continued writing, I began to feel like I had become an editor at a publishing house.
I also thought the “Magazine Settings” feature on note was very interesting.
It was refreshing to be able to create my own “my magazine” by grouping my articles by theme, just like the manga magazines I devoured as a child.
Thinking of stories to draw in readers and refining the structure felt just like being asole proprietor. At the company, there is a foundation built by my seniors, but on note, I am gaining valuable experience inplanning from scratch, creating a product (article), and delivering it to customers called readers.
2. Realizing it daily! The fun of improving marketing skills
Since starting note, I feel that my ownmarketing skillshave improved significantly.
When you post an article, data shows you 'what users who don't know me are looking at, clicking on, and reading before hitting the Like button'.
I record my daily view counts and number of likes in an Excel sheet and continue to analyze them. I've noticed that even within the same genre, some articles get better reactions from readers than others, and sometimes just changing the title slightly has doubled the number of views.
I think of each article as my own 'product' and feel like I'm selling it while improving it every day. Even if the title is attractive, it won't lead to a 'Like' if the content of the article doesn't resonate with the reader.
This daily trial and error is truly exciting. The joy when a hypothesis I've formed turns out to be correct and the number of likes and views increases feels exactly like beating a game.
3. Challenge yourself like a game! The world expands with project posts
In the note community, project posts are held periodically.
These have deadlines, and if you are selected, you might even get a prize! Just like a work deadline, it motivates me to 'write an article that readers will enjoy with better material before this deadline'.
It's also interesting that you can see the reactions of readers (customers) immediately. Since they are held every month, I've started keeping my antenna up for 'interesting material' in my daily life, and my days are filled with new discoveries.
4. Persistence pays off! Writing skills and results gained through note
It has been over two weeks since I started writing on note, and I have continued to post with a goal of about 2000 characters per article every day. And recently, I've realized that those efforts are starting to bear fruit.
Believe it or not, my article was picked up by note money!
I am truly grateful that my article, with only about 55 followers, was given the opportunity to be seen by more people.
More than 60% of the people who read the article pressed 'Like', and I am truly humbled by everyone who read it despite their busy schedules. Thank you!
I am the most surprised myself that I was able to improve my skills in such a short period of time in the field of writing, which I had absolutely no experience in before.
The joy of having my thoughts properly reach readers by sincerely facing each article and repeating trial and error is exceptional.
I haven't reached monetization yet.
But when I see people who are actually making money on note, I feel it's truly wonderful.
The fact that an article I wrote can be sold as a 'product', and that there are ways to earn income other than working for a company, is a solid side business, and I strongly feel it is a powerful skill for living without depending on a company.
My current goal is to earn money on note within 2 months, and to continuously publish high-quality articles and create fans for my content. I continue to challenge myself every day to achieve that.
Summary
Since I started note, I've been able to take on challenges that I couldn't experience at my company.
Without fear of being criticized by anyone, through my own observations, hypotheses, and practices, I can hone new skills as a 'side hustle'.
Being a trial sole proprietor that I can be this absorbed in is truly the best!
Since I discovered note, every day has been full of new stimulation and learning.
If you also have vague thoughts like I did, please dive into the world of note. New discoveries and challenges are surely waiting for you.
Thank you for reading until the end!
This was Yu and the others' mother.
