Asset Building Edition: Mindset for Increasing Assets
Hello, this is Yu's mom.
“Even if I try hard to save money, I feel somewhat impoverished…”
“You can't weigh money against family, but money is important for living.”
“I want to save money, but why doesn't it go as planned…”
I used to think this way too.
However, by changing my perspective and way of thinking, my assets increased as a result, and now my time with my family is even more enjoyable.
For example…
■ I can now afford to buy seasonal fruits (melons, cherries).
■ On summer weekends, we can now go to the municipal pool instead of just using a home pool.
■ About once a month, we now buy delicious bread from the local bakery as a family.
It’s not the life in luxury hotels or resorts you see on social media, but the small daily pleasures have increased.
I believe that 30 million yen in assets is a goal that can surely be reached through the accumulation of small daily growth.
I will share 5 things I have been conscious of while aiming for 30 million yen in assets, giving concrete examples. The key is to think positively.
1. Think about how to get both money and family
“Which is more important, money or family?” If asked that, many people would probably choose one or the other.
But the world isn't that simple.
Even if you choose one, the speed at which your ideal assets grow might be slow.
Work is just one means of earning money.
I myself struggled with this the most in building assets of over 30 million yen.
I also talked a lot with my husband.
“Even if money increases through overtime pay, I’m not happy. If the means to increase money is overtime, I don't want you to do it. I want you to help with housework and childcare.”
That is why I studied and looked for other ways to increase money.
Those were asset management through investment and a lifestyle of organizing money.
For example
■ Open a securities account and start investment trusts
■ Cancel unnecessary subscriptions
■ Review insurance
■ Organize what is necessary and what is unnecessary
Then, money naturally started to remain in my hands.
By putting this money into investments, I saw a path to increase my assets while also valuing time with my family.
2. Focus on being happy with your current situation
“The grass is always greener on the other side”—as the saying goes, there will be times when you look at others and feel envious.
There is no end to it if you look at those above you, such as the wealthy traveling the world or people working in resort areas.
The important thing is to check what you currently have.
When I had saved about 10 million yen in assets, the points I reflected on regarding myself were
like this.
■ I own a car (essential since I live in a rural area)
■ I have a husband
■ I live in an apartment with free parking, Wi-Fi, and a 15-minute walk from the station
■ I have a custom-made pillow worth about 5,000 yen
By having these things, I felt lucky, and my heart felt much lighter.
Rather than looking at what you don't have and feeling negative by thinking, 'I'm poor,' it is easier on your mind to look at what you do have and spend your time optimistically, thinking, 'I'm lucky.'
Money will accumulate if you save it steadily.
3. Truly, 'Failure is the stepping stone to success'
Everyone experiences failure.
I also had failures like these.
■ I made 10 sales proposals but couldn't close a single contract
■ I exchanged business cards with over 20 people at an exhibition but couldn't get any sales appointments
■ I tried day trading but didn't make any profit
■ I tried FX and only suffered losses
But it is precisely because I failed that I gained insights.
I was able to identify what went wrong and reflect on it.
Especially regarding investment, I decided never to touch fields I don't understand myself.
I learned firsthand that using money for things you don't understand is the same as gambling.
Don't fear failure; identify areas for improvement and apply them next time.
Perhaps you will succeed on the 11th try, or maybe the 20th.
When you succeed, focus on that one time.
If you can do the same thing again, there is a possibility of doubling your success.
4. Praise and express gratitude positively
There are many ways to earn money, such as getting promoted or making profits from stocks and crypto assets. However, since you cannot invest in stocks or crypto assets without initial capital, increasing that capital is the first priority.
On top of that, I believe it is very important to praise and thank people.
For a dual-income couple, it is not about one person working hard to increase capital, but rather working together to earn money is the most efficient and fastest way.
To achieve this, in order to handle housework and childcare smoothly, instead of focusing on what the other person hasn't done, you should repeatedly praise and thank them for what they have done.
In our home, when my husband washes the dishes, I make sure to express my gratitude specifically by saying, 'Thank you, that's a big help!'
As a result, the other person's need for approval is satisfied, and better team cooperation has started to emerge.
As a result, the burden on each other was reduced, both of us had more time to focus on our work, and we were able to earn about the same amount.
The same applies if you are single.
Praise and thank the colleagues who cooperated with you on your work.
By doing so, it becomes easier to work, and you will be able to handle larger tasks.
The number of colleagues who help you will increase, which will ultimately lead to greater results.
5. Grasping the happiness within reach
When you think, 'I want to increase my assets!', you tend to seek large sums of money (100 million yen), purchasing luxury goods, staying at luxury resorts, or an environment where you don't have to work.
Winning the lottery is probably the only way to suddenly reach such a place.
What I value in building assets is obtaining small happiness.
■ First, let's become able to buy a car.
■ Let's become able to buy time-saving home appliances.
■ Let's become able to stay at Hoshino Resorts.
If you set goals that are too far away, the path may feel endless, and you might give up.
First, lower your success level and start with things you can easily do.
I started by giving my husband just a little bit of high-quality coffee.
I think really small things are fine.
When you lower the level of success, small successes accumulate.
At the same time, you will gain confidence, and you will likely reach a state where moving forward is not painful.
Make positive thinking your ally and increase your assets
I myself used to spend my days thinking negatively, such as 'I am poor in spirit,' 'Which is more important, money or family?', or 'I can't save money well.'
However, by changing my thinking and changing my actions, I have experienced 'assets increasing' little by little, but surely.
That can be achieved through the accumulation of small daily successes and the accumulation of positive thoughts.
Please try starting with small things from today.
That positive thinking should increase your assets.
Thank you for reading until the end!
