When studying astrology, there are words that always come up when reading the 12th house or the South Node.
"Karma to be released," "wounds from past lives," "tasks to be settled in this lifetime."
I used to think that way too. When I saw people with many planets in the 12th house or an emphasized South Node, I would read it as, "They have brought a heavy past life with them."
But recently, I've started to think that this might be fundamentally wrong.

Pisces and the 12th House are the place of the "complete being"
The essence of Pisces and the 12th house is "a space where time does not exist and everything coexists."
Past, present, and future exist simultaneously, and there are no boundaries between self and others. It is a place where all existence is permitted to exist.
In other words, Pisces and the 12th house are a space of a complete being.
From there, we are born into the 1st house. As a self that is suddenly lacking.

What happens at the moment of birth in the 1st house
We descend to earth from the space of a complete being as a lacking existence.
This "lack" is not a curse.
It is a design necessary for living as a human. Because we are incomplete, we need others. Because we are incomplete, we can complement each other. Because we are incomplete, we can grow.
But—and this is important—I believe that at that moment, the lingering scent of Pisces is passed along with us.
"You may look like you are lacking now, but you are actually perfect. You have everything you need."
That is the message from the universe. That is what a past life is.

Past lives were not "debts" but "signposts"
Existing astrology reads past lives as "carried-over karma." Wounds to be settled, attachments to be released, tasks to be redone in this lifetime.
But I think this:
Past lives are a parting gift given as love from the universe.
Because there are tasks, we can notice our default self. Without tasks, there is no way to remember that we are a complete being.
For example, suppose someone carries an intense memory of being "betrayed" in a past life. The same pattern repeats in their human relationships in this lifetime.
With the existing way of reading, it would be, "Heal that wound and let it go."
But my way of reading is different. That task is given as a map to remember that "you are a person who can trust others in the first place."
The content of the task points directly to "what you originally possess."

That is why the 12th house is not a "place to end things"
Many astrologers read the 12th house as a "hidden place," "a place of release," or "a warehouse of karma."
But I read the 12th house as "a place where clues to remembering that you are a complete being are kept."
People with many planets in the 12th house have not brought a heavy past life, but rather have brought that many signposts.
If they can master them, they can return to their default self from a deeper place than anyone else.

The importance of reading 12th house past lives
In sessions, I sometimes read past lives from the placement of the 12th house cusp ruler.
So far, I have not met anyone who didn't find this to resonate.
Without fail, the reaction is, "I see, that's why I always think such and such." It's as if they are understanding their own words and actions for the first time.
To give one example—one person had a Gemini 12th house cusp, and its ruler, Mercury, was in the 9th house.
She was constantly driven by the urge to "study more, aim higher." Her ascendant was Cancer and her Moon was in the 4th house, so she was someone who originally liked to relax at home, but she couldn't prioritize that. Her consciousness would inevitably turn to studying, studying.
When I conveyed the content of her 12th house past life as "a soul that has already learned enough," she said this:
"I don't have to study anymore. It's not that I won't study, but it's okay to just explore what I'm interested in."
Her way of learning changed at that moment.
By knowing the content of a past life as "something that is already finished," one becomes able to choose the way of life they truly want to live—I have seen this many times.
By ending the past life, the past closes, and the door to the future opens.
Understanding the meaning of the parting gift becomes the starting point for living this lifetime. That is the biggest reason to read the 12th house.

The true nature of the feeling that "there must be something more"
Sometimes while living, a feeling comes that is hard to put into words.
"There must be something more," "I don't feel like I belong here," "Something is missing."
Many people read this as a "sense of lack." In spiritual circles, it is sometimes expressed as "the soul is seeking growth."
But I think this:
That feeling is not a sense of lack, but the lingering scent of the memory of being a complete being.
The feeling from just before coming from the 12th house and becoming a self that is lacking in the 1st house sometimes suddenly returns.
A memory that says, "That's right, the original me was not just like this."
It is not impatience. It is a calling back.
