The Struggle of Stagnant Social Media: "Is There a Soul in Your Content?"
The first challenge a coach faces is attracting clients.
(Though attracting clients is difficult for more than just coaches...)
When I ask new coaches, "How do you plan to attract clients?" most of them say, "I'll work hard on social media."
And I have seen many people working hard to post every single day.
"Yes! That's amazing, you're working so hard on your daily posts!" While I look at their posts and feel full of support...
Let me be blunt.
"The content of your posts is not interesting."
And then they worry that their social media marketing isn't working...
Isn't this because the purpose of posting on social media is misguided?
And aren't they under the misconception that posting every day will automatically gain followers?
The myth that "posts should be for the benefit of followers"
"Let's post things that are beneficial (valuable) to our followers."
In Instagram courses, writing courses, and various skill-building workshops, everyone says the same thing. Of course, that is true.
If you cannot provide knowledge or information that is beneficial to your followers, they won't follow you. But I believe that alone is insufficient.
Of course, it would be different if that knowledge or information were uniquely yours and born from groundbreaking ideas. On the other hand, in this age of information overload, if you truly had unique and groundbreaking ideas, you wouldn't even need to go out of your way to attract clients on social media. Most of the knowledge and information you put out is just stuff that is already lying around for free everywhere you look the moment you open your smartphone.
Is there a soul in your content?
If you truly want to deliver something to your followers, you must not just paraphrase common information or know-how picked up from somewhere else. You must convey the stories you have experienced and lived through, along with the thoughts and emotions you gained from them, with your whole soul. If someone tells you, "This is a popular recommended restaurant," but they have never been there or eaten there, who would be interested...?
A list of information cannot move people's hearts. In the end, what moves people's hearts is emotion.
"Is there a soul in the posts you upload?"
My barren social media account
I, too, had a period where I worked very hard on social media posts.
On both Instagram and X, my past posts were full of empty know-how with absolutely no soul in them.
My main concerns at the time were "how to increase followers" and "how to get likes." Rather than focusing on the content of the posts, I worried about which hashtags were best, what time to post, and what search keywords would increase impressions...
I posted on social media thinking only about those things. Of course, I achieved almost no results.
Now I am writing with great emotion
On the other hand, I have recently been writing these NOTE posts with my whole soul.
Even at this very moment as I write this, I am writing while my excitement is still high and my emotions are being stirred. The thoughts I want to convey are so strong that my typing speed cannot keep up with my thinking.
My NOTE has 34 followers. Honestly, it's a small, weak account.
Even so, I am proud that my soul-filled writing is already reaching the people I want it to reach. In fact, there are people who have read this blog and signed up for my services. Even with only 35 followers.
What you should convey on social media
If you want to attract clients, what you should convey on social media is "you" yourself.
It's okay if you can't do it well at first; it's okay to repeat trial and error.
Why not rethink what kind of "you" you want to deliver to whom through social media?
