What are you talking about? Paradigm Shift (Part 101) Lemon 🍋
Suddenly, the station concourse was overflowing with lemons.
Lemon curry.
Lemon ramen.
Lemon cake.
Lemon butter.
There was even lemon daifuku.
The special corner, surrounded by yellow and white stripes, felt somewhat like an early summer festival, softly and sourly dyeing the vision of the people passing by.
The moment I saw that scene, for some reason, what came to mind was
Kotaro Takamura's 'Lemon Elegy' 🍋
You were waiting for a lemon so much
In that poem, the lemon is not just a fruit.
It is depicted as a 'light'-like existence
that pulls Chieko's consciousness, on her deathbed,
back to reality for just a moment.
The moment the lemon is bitten,
a 'topaz-colored fragrance' rises,
and 'blue, clear eyes' smile faintly.
In that scene, there is not only sadness,
but also a certain vividness of 'life' itself.
Perhaps that is why.
While looking at the countless lemon products
lined up in the station's special corner,
I felt a slightly strange sensation.
Could it be that people have always
entrusted something to lemons?
A tired body.
A humid season.
A hazy consciousness.
Stagnant air.
Into that, that acidity and fragrance pierce through.
Then, just a little,
the contours of the world become clear.
Of course,
the lemon fair inside the station and 'Lemon Elegy'
are completely different things.
One is a lively promotional event,
and the other is a quiet poem about watching over a loved one.
Even so, in that gap,
I felt something in common.
Something like the 'power to bring consciousness back to this side'
that the existence of a lemon possesses.
The modern lemon has become quite cheerful.
It has become ramen,
daifuku,
cookies,
and a yellow that looks good on social media.
However, deep down, I feel that
the memory of the 'coolly shining lemon'
still flows quietly.
That is why,
while looking at the bright lemon stall in the station,
I was remembering 'Lemon Elegy' just a little.
