The Romance of Seeking the Substructure of Things
The physicist's romance
In the world of physics, 17 types of elementary particles are known as the Standard Model of particle physics.
However, if we could observe the decay of a proton, we might be able to reduce that number even further.
Grand Unified Theories—models known as SU(5) or SO(10)—uphold that dream.
It is the romance of physicists to want to organize the elements that make up the world as minimally and beautifully as possible.
Yet, this feeling is not the exclusive domain of researchers.
The same impulse lurks in my daily life, which should be far removed from physics.
BLUE's daily life
I want to know the 'substructure' of that person's way of thinking.
I want to see through to the 'underlying causes' of events and incidents.
In other words, like the Earth in a heliocentric model with oneself at the center,
I want to connect the events of the world and visualize them😤
And, strangely enough—
the simpler that structure is, the more my heart feels happy for some reason.
Just as physicists find beauty in mathematical formulas,
perhaps we, too, are dreaming of a neat and simple order
behind the complexity of daily life.
