Celebration Day

Around 11 o'clock, I decided it was time to head out and put on my boots. The boots were ones I had received from Kashiwa-san the year before, and they had very pointed toes. It felt strange to think that by the time I took them off, I would have already made my debut at the live house.

I took the train and first went to Tsuji's house. Tsuji wasn't a member of the band, but I had promised to borrow a large amplifier from him to use at the concert.
Soon, the other members gathered at Tsuji's house as well. Once we loaded the equipment into Nabe's car, it became quite cramped. It had been decided that not only the members but also Tsuji would ride along, but it seemed difficult for everyone to fit.
"It's awfully cramped, isn't it?"
"In that case, I'll go by train."
"Are you sure?"
"I don't mind. Just make sure you load the guitar."

After seeing the car off, I went to buy a ticket at the station and realized I didn't have my wallet. Of all days, I had put my wallet in the pocket of my guitar case. Since it was an era before mobile phones, there was no way to contact anyone.
As it happened, there was a club meeting at school that day. Intending to borrow train fare from someone, I ran the one stop from Tsuji's house to the school. It was extremely difficult to run in those boots. I twisted my ankles several times.

When I arrived at the meeting place, Fukushima called out to me.
"Hey, wasn't today the day of your debut at 'Bahama'?"
"That's right. I borrowed an amplifier at Tsuji's place and loaded it into the car."
"So, what are you doing here?"
"I had the guitar loaded with the rest of the gear, and I left my wallet in the guitar case. Because of that, I don't even have train fare. Honestly, I'm in a real bind."
"You're an idiot."
"You're coming to see us at Bahama today, aren't you? Just lend me a thousand yen for now. It's fine, right? I'll pay you back as soon as you get there."
"No."
"Please, lend it to me."
"No."
"Lend it to me."
Then Nakayama-san held out a thousand-yen bill.
"I'll lend it to you because I feel sorry for you."
"Thank you very much."

With that thousand yen, I took the train to Shinsaibashi. I arrived at Bahama at just the right time.
