Mr. Donkey Part 2

During art class, Mr. Donkey placed a chair in the middle of the classroom and said, "Today, I want you to draw me."

Nobody wanted to draw such a thing, but there was no point in saying they didn't want to. In fact, the teacher had already made up his mind and was sitting there with good posture. Since it had come to this, there was no choice but to endure it and draw.
Apparently, the drawings were to be submitted to the Board of Education's art competition. I don't know who the judges are, but if forty portraits of a donkey arrived, they would surely be quite surprised. Thinking about that, I started to feel a bit sorry for them.

Mr. Donkey, with his hands folded on his lap, said, "Draw the sketch with a pencil, and then paint it with watercolors."
Pencils are easier to use because you can fix mistakes, but I didn't understand why he was so insistent on a donkey portrait. It seemed like it would have been fine to just paint over a crayon sketch as usual.
"Drawing with a pencil is unusual, isn't it? He must really want us to draw him well," said Matsuoka, and hearing that, I realized he was right.

When I painted over the sketch, the paint was too thick, and the nose and laugh lines disappeared. Even if it was a donkey's face, it would be a pity to have only eyes and a mouth. So, I painted the nose and laugh lines back on over the skin-colored paint with black paint before submitting it.

A few days later, Mr. Donkey said about the portraits, "I sent everyone's drawings to the competition yesterday. But there was one that had something like a mustache drawn on with black paint, so I didn't submit that one." I remember his tone was quite bitter.
"Isn't that about your drawing, Momo-kun?" Matsuoka asked, so I replied, "I don't really care."
In truth, I didn't care whether it was submitted to the competition or not, but later, when I realized he thought he had made me regret it with that, I felt annoyed for a long time, which was a bother.
