Swords and Omelet Rice

I have long felt skeptical about the necessity of wrapping omelet rice in an egg. I don't particularly feel that it tastes better because it is wrapped in a thin sheet of cooked egg. It seems to me that it would be fine to just mix the egg in and cook it, like fried rice.
Once, at a coffee shop I entered with McCoy, I grabbed a waitress and asked her, "Is there really any need for omelet rice to have the rice wrapped in an egg?"
The girl gave me a look that said, "Huh?" and then replied, "If you don't wrap it, it's not omelet rice, is it?" She was half-smiling. It was the tone of someone thinking, "This old guy is just saying something nonsensical because he wants attention; it's creepy, but he's a customer, so I guess I have to answer him, even though it's creepy."
I had asked the question in all seriousness, so it was disappointing to have it misinterpreted like that. I said, "Thank you very much," and shooed her away.
In the first place, I was asking about the merits of wrapping it in egg, so saying it wouldn't be omelet rice if it weren't wrapped doesn't address the point. Since she was using the very thing in question as the answer, there was no room for discussion.

The iaido teacher I studied under previously was also someone who didn't quite engage in a meaningful way like that.
The school I joined had a separate branch that had split off during the Meiji era. For some reason, the teacher treated that other branch as a major enemy and criticized them at every opportunity.
Criticism is fine, but the content of his argument was always, "They are frauds. They are fakes. And the reason is that we are the real ones," which lacked any real persuasiveness. The other side could surely say the exact same thing.
Once, when I asked for the basis of why we were the real ones, he replied, "Because our headmaster is the legitimate headmaster," which left me at a complete loss for words. From then on, I decided not to bring up that topic.
In the first place, there is no need to go around deciding which school is the real one. Once I thought about it that way, the reason for wrapping the rice in an egg gradually became unimportant to me as well.
