Feeling frustrated by unreasonableness is proof that you have your own core. My thoughts on the idea that 'school is for learning about unreasonableness.'
"School is a place to learn about unreasonableness."
Such words sometimes appear on my Twitter timeline.
Seeing that it's sometimes an account belonging to a school teacher, I honestly think, "That's completely missing the point. This is exactly why school non-attendance never goes away..."
The argument from such people seems to be, "There are more unreasonable things when you enter society. Therefore, you should practice for that at school."
......No, no, how could anyone be convinced by that!
In the first place, just mindlessly enduring unreasonableness is a suspension of thought.
"It can't be helped," "That's just how it is," "It's the rules"—accepting things without thinking about anything at all.
That is a state of completely losing your own core and being swallowed up by those around you.
Originally, I believe people are meant to live while valuing the feelings within themselves, asking, "What do I think?" and "Is this really right?"
However, there are many meaningless rules at school.
・Two-block haircuts prohibited
・No jackets allowed even when it's cold
・Marked wrong if the order of multiplication is different, even if the answer is correct
Even if you say, "I want you to change it" or "Isn't this strange?", you are rebuffed with thoughtless responses like "It's the rules" or "We didn't teach that in class."
And so, children have their "ability to follow" strengthened rather than their "ability to think."
Moreover, if I'm told that this is "training to endure the unreasonableness of society," I find it even less convincing. That's not what we should be learning.
But you know, I try to think about the background of the people saying that...
"I was like that too" "The ability to endure unreasonableness produces results"
They must have grown up and lived their lives working hard within those values.
By enduring unreasonableness and producing results, they were recognized by those around them, and I think they never even had room to doubt that "it's a good thing."
But that leads to the question of whether it's okay to leave it as it is.
It's not the Showa era anymore; it's Reiwa.
If you have even the slightest sense of discomfort with mindlessly enduring unreasonableness, why not update those values?
"Endure it," "Be patient," "It's the rules." If you keep doing this forever, the end result is that when you enter society, you'll be told at a black company that "enduring unreasonableness is your job," and you'll end up falling apart.
Let's put an end to that.
What is needed in the coming era is:
・The ability to doubt, "Does this rule really have any meaning?"
・The ability to speak up and say, "I think this is strange"
・The ability to propose, "Wouldn't it be better to do it this way?" Isn't that right?
These are things you can only do because you have a solid core.
In fact, there are many people who don't just endure unreasonableness, but take action to change it.
People who quit unreasonable companies and choose their own way of working.
People who spoke up against strange rules and changed them.
There are ways to leave an unreasonable environment, and there are ways to influence the environment to bring about change in others.
If you are currently feeling frustrated, thinking, 'Isn't this unreasonable?' or 'I think this is strange, but am I the one who is wrong?', or if you are losing sight of yourself...
Actually, that frustration is proof that you have a sense of self.
The truth is, you have a solid sense within yourself of 'this is wrong' or 'this is what I want to do,' but you have just been suppressing it due to the influence of your parents, society, and education.
So first, let's start by reclaiming your sense of self.
'What do I want to do?' 'How do I really feel?' Cherish these questions and nurture your own values. Change is born from there.
Lastly, a quick announcement🌿
If you think, 'I want to nurture my sense of self and live my own life!', I offer sessions for that, so please feel free to reach out. I'm currently preparing for the sessions, so I'll let you know again once the details are finalized!
