Hello!
I am Hiro, a Japanese language teacher who wants to make people happy and bring them joy.
Better late than never, let me introduce myself.
◇ What I have done...
Actually, in the past, I mainly designed ballet costumes.
After that, I worked at a rental costume shop in Canada.
In addition, I have experienced living abroad in places like Australia, Mongolia, and Bolivia,
leading a life as a traveler full of twists and turns.
I have lived recklessly and desperately.
Before I knew it, I had been involved in Japanese language education for about 20 years,
meeting over 1,500 people from a total of more than 50 countries.
Even though I am not good with IT, I have started online lessons.
I have responded to the needs of learners, such as Japanese for nursing care, business Japanese, and JLPT preparation.
Recently, for Japanese people, I have been teaching
cross-cultural communication and
"Plain Japanese" (Yasashii Nihongo),
aiming to create a society that is kind to everyone.
◇ What I like...
💓 It is my joy to be useful to others.
🍀 What I am into lately...
・Street Academy (I am a Street Academy instructor, but I take more classes than I teach)
・Creating Japanese quizzes with Google Forms
(I do pro bono work for a Japanese language learning support community on Facebook)
Hobbies...
・Photography (I like taking snapshots of everyday life.)
・Travel (I used to be an overseas backpacker, and I like using the Seishun 18 Kippu ticket to visit friends in Japan, but I refrained during the COVID-19 pandemic, and recently I have been a homebody due to poor health.)
・Watching performances (I liked watching ballet, plays, and musicals. Maybe I worked in stage costumes in the past because I have a personality that gets an adrenaline rush backstage.)
・Movies (I like human dramas. Even if there are painful parts along the way, I like happy endings.)
・Reading (though I tend to have a pile of unread books)
・Chatting with friends (I like having rapid-fire conversations at family restaurants.)
◇ What I dislike...
・Dishonest and irresponsible people
(I have a personality that hates crooked things.
I often clashed with people abroad because of this. I was naive.
Looking back, there must have been cultural differences and misunderstandings,
and I think I also had my own biased beliefs of "how things should be.")
・Discrimination and prejudice
(Since I am not a perfect human being myself, I try to be careful
not to hurt people unknowingly, such as through unconscious bias.)
→ If this disappears, the world will be more peaceful, won't it?
*******************
🍀 I believe that being a Japanese language teacher
is a grassroots activity that leads to "world peace."
💓 Paying it forward
Kindness goes from person to person, circulating around the world.
*******************
I am a clumsy and inefficient
Japanese language teacher who taps on a stone bridge too many times,
taking time before starting anything,
and living in working poverty,
but I am somehow managing to live.
I will write about what I think and feel from time to time.
