Aphex Twin’s First Japan Tour: Setlist & Live Recording at OSAKA

This English-language article is the original; the Japanese-language note post is a mirror.

Foreword

This performance was recorded at "BAYSIDE Jenny" in Osaka using a Sony Handycam that had just been released at the time. Unfortunately, someone overseas later uploaded this to the internet without my permission and mislabeled it as "Tokyo Liquidroom – January 2, 1997."

As the tour schedule clearly shows, Aphex Twin was in Australia on January 2, 1997, and it would have been impossible for him to perform in Tokyo on that day.

The bootleg recording circulating online is actually my recording. Because the bass is artificially boosted in that version, I am uploading the original version here instead. I also added a slight amount of reverb to reduce the noise as much as possible.

This video is officially authorized by WARP Records, and I have received permission from WARP to publish this live recording.

Caution

The actual performance lasted about two hours, but because the camera battery died, this is all that could be recorded.

Regarding the Tokyo performance, it is reported that the audience reaction was poor, and music journalists reported that Richard D. James left the stage after only about an hour.

Therefore, please note that the setlists for the 1997 Aphex Twin Japan tour circulating on the internet are generally inaccurate. They appear to be a mix of the Osaka and Tokyo performances rather than a setlist for either one.
