Sophocles (497/496 BCE - 406/405 BCE) was an ancient Greek writer of plays. He was born at Colonus, and died in Athens. He was said to have written about 125 plays, but only seven have survived. These include the complete Theban trilogy: Oedipus Rex, Antigone, and Oedipus at Colonus.
