Els mizozous (Myzozoa) són un fílum de protists alveolats unicel·lulars, generalment flagel·lats i d'hàbitat marí principalment, que posseeixen alvèols corticals. Dins Alveolata constitueix el clade principal germà dels ciliats (Ciliophora). És molt divers, ja que inclou grups fotosintètics (Dinoflagellata i Chromerida), grups heteròtrofs endoparàsits (Apicomplexa i Perkinsozoa) i heteròtrofs predadors de vida lliure.[1]
És un grup gran amb unes 8.000 espècies descrites, moltes de les quals presenten complex apical o s'alimenten per mizocitosi. Els mizozous més primerencs s'anomenen protalveolats, ja que presenten característiques ancestrals com la de ser biflagel·lats aquàtics, ràpids nedadors i predadors.[2]
Els mizozous es defineixen per ser típicament haploides, mentre que a l'altre fílum, els ciliats, hi ha micronuclis diploides i macronuclis multiploides.[3] A més es caracteritzen per tenir crestes mitocondrials ampul·lars.[4]
Perkinsus marinus i els Apicomplexa tots dos tenen histones mentre que els dinoflagel·lats sembla que les han perdut.[5]
