Mira Murati (born 1988 in Albania) is an AI executive who served as Chief Technology Officer of OpenAI from 2022 to 2024. During her tenure she led the technical organizations behind ChatGPT (launched November 2022), GPT-4 (March 2023), DALL-E, and Whisper. She briefly served as interim CEO during the November 2023 board crisis when Sam Altman was temporarily fired.
Murati holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Dartmouth, worked at Tesla on Model X (2013-2016), and joined OpenAI in 2018.
