DALL-E is the image-maker made by OpenAI (the same company that makes ChatGPT). The name is a play on Salvador Dalí (the surrealist painter) and WALL-E (the Pixar robot).

How to use it

  • Open ChatGPT.
  • Type “Make me a picture of [your idea].”
  • Wait a few seconds. Picture appears.
  • Ask for changes. “Make it darker.” “Add a cat.”

What DALL-E is good at

  • Following exact instructions
  • Putting words in pictures without typos
  • Cartoon and illustration styles
  • Quick edits to existing pictures

What it’s not as good at

  • Photo-real portraits (Flux or Imagen win there)
  • Super artistic, painterly styles (Midjourney wins)

Price

Free tier lets you make a few pictures per day. ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) removes most limits.
