I decided to buy this book, mainly so I could be caught up to read Jason Aaron's run on Ghost Rider. I figure it would be a decent buy considering that I rather like Daniel Way as a writer, usually, even though I'm kinda indifferent about Ghost Rider on average. What I can tell you is that this book didn't really disappoint in terms of writing. OK so the art is pretty inconsistent, but the writing is solid, and I found it rather amusing the way they portray Ghost Rider as a dirt stupid who thinks he can quip, but utterly fails.
Normally, I don't give a summary of the story in these, but with the product description not saying much, I'll just add a little extra. Basically, Johnny Blaze sold his soul, ages ago, became Ghost Rider, went on adventures, and now you enter this book with Blaze stuck in hell. He makes his way out of hell, only to find that the. somehow, devil hitched a ride along with him, and has big plans for what he will do on earth, and only Ghost Rider can stop him.
Simple enough of a story, but it works. As I said before, the writing is solid, despite the simple premise, and the delivery makes up for alot. So yeah, the book for the most part is pretty good. Not perfect but certainly worth it's price.
There are some drawbacks to the book itself, beyond artwork and storytelling. I found it a tad disappointing that I was unable to find this book in a hardcover, because as I said, I bought it to catch up on the series and read Jason Aaron's work on Ghost Rider. So it would have been nice if I could get a hardcover to match the book that directly follows this one. That or to be able to get Jason Aaron's Omnibus in paperback. Still, all in all that's a very minor complaint.
If you are new to Ghost Rider and want a place to start, you can certainly do alot worse than this book, here. If you like Ghost Rider, or are just considering something to read before you start on the Jason Aaron Omnibus, then either way, this is a great buy. If you're into action/horror, or occult fiction, this is for you. However if you are easily offended, or not wanting to read anything too violent, you might wanna steer clear.

2019年6月26日に英国でレビュー済みGhost Rider by Daniel Way The Complete Collection collects Ghost Rider #1-19 (2006-2008) written by Daniel Way and art by Javier Saltares, Mark Texeira and Richard Corben. This collects Daniel Way's involvement with Ghost Rider which was collected in 4 separate volumes titled Vicious Cycle, The Life and Death of Johnny Blaze, Apocalypse Soon and Revelations. It should be mentioned that just because this is a complete collection it doesn't contain the entire run of Ghost Rider, just Daniel Way's run but I'll talk more about that later.
I'm fairly new to comics, I've been reading them for about a year now and in that year I've come across Daniel Way in his Deadpool and Venom series and am a fan of his work and how Marvel releases his works in a decent sized collection. Once I learned of this collection I jumped at the chance to get my hands on it as my only knowledge of the character was from the movies with Nicholas Cage but also was excited for a more mature read. I can give you the story quite simply but I think it may be better to quote Johnny Blaze himself "My name's Johnny Blaze an a long time ago I made a deal with the devil to save the ones I love. Because of that deal, I became something called the Ghost Rider…an' then I got sent to hell. But I escaped… an' so did the devil. Not in one piece like me, though. Instead, he came here to earth in little pieces that ended up in the bodies of the recently-dead, bringing em' back to life...but possessed. You asked me what I'm doin' here, well...I'm chasin' after the devil, tryin' to right somthin' that I did very, very wrong." It's very accurate (in fact was on a single page which I'll be including a picture of) but that's not all of it, there are 666 pieces of the Devil (go figure) that have scattered around the world, and when one falls the rest grow stronger. The story itself isn't bad, I did like it and would definitely pick it up again and will be moving on to what's next, there isn't just one story here, there are a few smaller stories that take place and even a tie into to World War Hulk which I have read and would recommend any Hulk fan buy (along with and after reading Planet Hulk) and we even get to see Dr. Strange.
While I like the story it's not perfect, I'd say I liked it more than Daniel Way's Venom run and as much as his Deadpool run but for different reasons. I personally feel there wasn't enough of the devil and fights between him and Ghost Rider, and I feel that's because of the huge amount of them, there 666 that Rider is meant to deal with and we see maybe 12 of them and don't really hear about the rest. Are we supposed to assume that Rider has dealt with them? If that's the case I think it could've been a nice touch if you hear a TV update or radio addressing the chaos and saying something along the lines of 'there were multiple sightings of a man reportedly with a flaming skull in (insert town) hours ago, charred remains were found at the site, the suspect is still at large' etc. Showing the sense of urgency and that Rider has been busy, instead we get one or two pages just talking about 3 or 4 of the devil's he killed regardless I'm just trying to find something to be nit picky about.
Overall, I thought this was quite an entertaining read and will definitely come back to it, it was also refreshing to get some more dark and mature reading from Marvel and helped make this character and experience all the more memorable when I compare it to other Marvel reads. The artwork was for the most part appealing to me, I particularly loved the opening in hell and other panels that showed off the Ghost Rider in awesome ways. I also like the fact that despite being a 19 issue story, it was quite a quick read for me which I like since I've got 20 other comics I need to get around to. So I see this as an easy recommendation especially for a reasonable price and for new comers to Ghost Rider in this format.
As I said before, this isn't the complete run of Ghost Rider as this collects 19 of the 35 released issues, Jason Aaron takes over the rest of the issues and if you want to continue reading this run of Ghost Rider I recommend purchasing Ghost Rider: The War for Heaven Book 1 as it collects #20-32 and annuals #1-2. I'm not sure if it's worth getting the last volume of Jason Aaron's Ghost Rider as its 3 issues and when I looked online kinda pricey so I'm going to buy the last 3 issues digitally and I'll update this review to say if it's really worth the purchase or it can be skipped. I also think it's pretty dumb that it's titled as book one since there isn't a book two.
Hopefully you found this review helpful and happy reading.

hoppershot09星5つ中5つan actual story behind the flames and leather.
2013年9月15日にアメリカ合衆国でレビュー済みThe art is choppy, but fits the gritty story line to a T!! I could never get into ghost rider because too many times GR has been all appearance and no story. Yeah....Flaming skull with spikes, chains, and a motorcycle. I get it. A nice symbol for nonhardassess to rally behind in a quick attempt to look tough. Hash tag# over it! But finally Daniel Way brings this collection of story arcs!!! I can't express how great of a read this is!!! There is blood. Heads torn off. One of the best depictions of hell I've seen in a comic since "Nancy in Hell". Plus Way uses the gay flames/leather/burning skull thing, and the stupidity of Johnny Blaze's quest for vengeance, to poke a little fun at ol' GR. Making you root for him even harder. There is also a great CIVIL WAR tie-in collected in the graphic novel. Since the devil spread out into 666 dead bodies when he came to earth, he finds a piece of his soul taking over a super villain that the punisher dropped during the civil war series!!! If you only read one Ghost Rider series in you life, read this collection!! And put everything else Daniel Way has ever written on your Amazon list!! except his new "Thunderbolts" title with the red hulk. It is only mildly entertaining.
