    こんな文章があるんだと驚かされました。あえて名前を付けるなら、空想科学エッセイという感じ。何かの事象を頭の中でグイグイ膨らませるんだけど、ビジュアルから離れていかないのが独特です。彼女が小さい頃に図鑑シリーズを買い揃えてもらったのが影響しているような気がします。違うかな？

    Wikipediaによれば、筒井康隆に感化されたそうで、なるほど文中の表現がＳＦっぽいのはそのせいなんだ。

    こんな一節があります。

    「私の好きなウニやハヤシライスや豚肉生姜焼きやアジのたたきや島らっきょうや鰻重。みんないい匂いだ。でもそれが自分の体臭だったらと考えるとゾッとする。また、どんなに好きでも抱きしめたり一緒の布団で寝たりする気にはならない…それって考えたら変ではないのか。私たちは嫌な匂いの、手で触ったり頬ずりしたりすることもできないものを平気で口に入れている…私たちはどうかしている」

    素晴らしい。気が付きませんでした。

    朝日新聞・天声人語で取り上げられていましたので購入、読ませていただきました。

    不思議な感性をお持ちの著者との印象を強くしました。ただし、いささか妄想気質の方らしく読んでいて気分が悪くなることがしばしばありました。「ねにもつタイプ」的な偏執的な傾向を感じます。ご本人はあとがきで「ねにもつタイプ」ではないと否定しておられますけど。

    さて、そんな本書はスティーヴン・ミルハウザー、ニコルソン・ベイカー、ルシア・ベルリンなど海外文学の翻訳でも知られる著者が、雑誌『ちくま』に掲載していた文章をまとめたもので、幼いころに何でも話せる親友だったニグから始まり、サンダバードよろしく発進していくミシン、山に向かっていくロープウェイ風呂、『🐈マッサージ屋』開業の野望。コアラの鼻の材質、『ホッホグルグル』、ちょんまげの謎。と妄想たくましい素敵な謎文？名文たちが収録されているのですが。⁣

    とかく、読書がコスパやタイパが求められたり。2026年現在、さらにAIによって要約されるようになっている受難の時代。だからこそ本書に収録されている内容は、それらに自然体で抗うような印象が強くなっていて感動した。⁣

    また、翻訳者ならではの『ことば』へのこだわり、違ったまなざし。またそれが思考や妄想へと終わりなく広がっていくのも、とても共感できて楽しかった。⁣

    著者はとても思い込みが強く、妄想豊かな人なのだろう

    （一部は実際にあった話だろうけど）。

    この妄想を物語にまで構築し立てあげれば

    星新一のショートショートになるのかもしれない。

    もし、妄想豊かな自分を演じて書いているのであれば、

    稀代のほらふきとして賞賛されていいだろう。

    向き不向きがあり、向かない人は読み続けられないだろう。

    評者は、二度は読まないだろうけど、

    一度は読み出したら止まらなくなった。

    読んでみても悪くないと思う。
