    　芥川賞作家の又吉直樹氏がYouTubeで絶賛していたんです、このエッセイ本を。2022年に自費出版で出たエッセイ本が、実業之日本社という名の知れた版元からソフトカバー本となって先月（2024年11月）書店に並んだのです。聞いたことのない小原晩という書き手、「ここで唐揚げ弁当を食べないでください」なる奇妙奇天烈なタイトル。「ここで」って「どこで」？　と膨らむ疑問を解消しないわけにはいきません。

    　読んでみて、又吉氏が自分のチャンネルで取り上げようと思った気持ちがよくわかりました。

    　1996年生まれの小原氏は、高校卒業後に実家を出て美容師になり、渋谷にある社員寮に入ります。その後、勤め先をいくつか変え、住まいも転じ、恋をし、人生に迷い、人との出会いと別れを経験し、それでも小原氏なりに地道に生きることを愉しむ姿が描かれます。

    　都内の渋谷や青山、代田や奥渋などが登場し、サラリーマン時代に小田急線で代々木八幡へ通っていたわたしには馴染のある風景が広がり、一気に親近感が湧きました。

    　又吉直樹氏もまた、上京後に東京という街に笑い、泣き、傷つき、それでも前に進もうとした思いを『東京百景』（角川文庫）という名随筆集で綴っていました。その味わいに『ここで唐揚げ弁当を食べないでください』は大変よく似ています。

    「あのね、いつ戻ってきてもいいからね。人生はがんばらなくたって、いいんだからね」（31頁）

    「こんなはずじゃなかったけれど、何度だってやりなおせるね。悲しいことばかりでもあるし、うれしいことばかりでもあるね、きっと一生」（36頁）

    「電話をかけてぐずぐず泣き言をいう私に『人生はたたかうしかないんだ。たたかわなければ、かならず負けるんだ』とその人は言った。怒っているようだった。酔ってはいないようだった。私はその正しさに、なにも言えなくて、ぷっつり電話を切り、それっきりである」（110頁）

    　こんなふうに著者は、笑い、泣き、傷つき、それでもやっぱり前に進もうという思いを忘れずに生きているのがよくわかります。慈愛に満ちた文章が大変心地よいエッセイ集です。

    ◆二階堂奥歯『八本脚の蝶』（ポプラ社／2006年）

    ：この書は、早大で哲学を学んだ後、国書刊行会と毎日新聞社で出版編集者として働くかたわら、二階堂奥歯という独特のHNのもとで2001年6月13日から2003年4月26日まで綴ったウェブ日記をまとめたものです。彼女は自身の自死を報告する一文を最後に綴ってウェブ（と人生）にピリオドを打っています。

    　若い人が、人生に倦み疲れながらも、生きる糧を読書に得ようと格闘した末に力尽きた書として私は読みました。

    ◆燃え殻『すべて忘れてしまうから』（扶桑社／2020年）

    ：2018年9月から2020年7月にかけて週刊SPA！で連載していたエッセイを加筆修正して編んだ書です。この書に収められた文章は、理屈に合わない人間関係に翻弄され、苦い思いを味わい続ける著者の「ままならない」思いが詰まっています。
