    タラヨウという葉に文字が書けることを前提に、それを「お告げ」として取り入れたアイデアは秀逸であり、効果的なイラストと相まってとても斬新で良かった。連作短編の中の主人公達に、生きるヒントを与えて、考えさせ、心温まる物語を進行させつつ、読み手にその都度、カタルシスを与えてくれる手法を確立させた記念すべき作品「猫のお告げは樹の下で」。これぞ青山美智子氏の面目躍如。

    胸に鬱屈した思いを抱えていたり、満たされない気持ちでいたりする人たちが、不思議な猫のお告げをきっかけに、大切なことに気づき、再生する話が七つ。

    どの話も、心にぽっと灯りが点るようなラストの読み心地が素敵でしたね。心癒やされるラストシーンに、涙があふれました。

    じんと胸に沁みる台詞が、いくつもありましたね。例えば、猫のお告げの意味が知りたくて神社にやって来た人物が、宮司（ぐうじ）さんから受け取る次の言葉とか。

    《「何かの答えを見出すのは素晴らしいことです。でも、そこにたどりつくまで迷いながら歩く日々のほうこそを人生と呼ぶんじゃないかと、わたしは思うんですけれどね」》p.113

    あと、著者の『木曜日にはココアを』に出てた人物（個人的に、かなり気に入ってる人物なんやけど）が登場する話があるんですね。まだ読んでなければ、先にその文庫本を読んでから本作に向かったほうが、面白味が増すんじゃないかなって思います。

    奈良の二月堂に多羅葉（タラヨウ）葉っぱに文字が書ける）葉書きの語源に使われた木があります。その話を友人にしたらこの本を紹介してくれました。この短編にはすべてタラヨウの葉っぱに書かれ猫のお告げが出てきます。短く読みやすく電車の中で読むのにオススメです。読んだあと元気になります
