自宅のある神奈川県を中心に、各地で昆虫たちの生態を追う。ライフワークはトンボの生態撮影。
日本写真家協会 (JPS)、日本自然科学写真協会 (SSP)、日本トンボ学会会員。
著書に『ネイチャーガイド 日本のトンボ』(文一総合出版・共著)、『デジタルカメラ 昆虫撮影術』(アストロアーツ・共著)など。

    どうしても同じシリーズの「テントウムシハンドブック」と比べてしまうのだが・・・

    身近の普通種でも掲載されていない種が目立つ

    もちろんテントウムシ科の3倍以上の既知種がいるわけだから、比べるのは酷だと分かってはいるが、レイアウトを工夫すればもう少し載せられたのではないかと思う

    写真はびっくりするほど鮮明なので、小さくしてもページ当たり3~4種入れられなかっただろうか？

    ページの2/3を1種が占めるページもあるが、必要だったのか疑問を感じる

    以上素人意見でした

    標本写真が生態のものより色が沈んでしまっていたりしますが、生態写真や、ないものは注釈で補われています。生えている毛や点刻、細部の形がわかるので助かります。

    巻頭の部位の名称の説明が初心者にわかりやすく、コラムはハムシへの興味を高めてくれる内容です。

    欲をいえば、解説ページに誤同定されやすい種名、巻末の種名索引にさらに、おおまかな食草から引ける索引を希望したい。

    とはいえ、これだけコンパクトな図鑑でありながら、ハムシの同定やその手がかりをつかむのにかなり満足度の高い本でした。

    次男がすぐに捕まえられるハムシに興味を持ちましたので購入しました。

    まぁ、マニアックですね。

    いろんな種類のハムシがいて驚きます。

    小〇館などのおおきな図鑑では掘り下げない、ピンポイントでハムシ。

    意外と身近にいる虫なので、興味がある方はどうぞ。

    この図鑑に網羅されている数々の美しいハムシに憧れて、実際にフィールドに出て採集してみるとハムシの小ささに驚かされます。

    実際には米粒よりも小さいハムシもこの図鑑では親指大に拡大した写真で掲載されているので、肉眼では確認しづらい特徴を把握することができます。

    それにしてもこれほど小さな虫を綺麗に展足して標本にされた方々の手先の器用さには敬服いたします。
