【著者プロフィール】
ファン・ボルム
小説家、エッセイスト。大学でコンピューター工学を専攻し、LG電子にソフトウェア開発者として勤務した。
転職を繰り返しながらも、「毎日読み、書く人間」としてのアイデンティティーを保っている。
著書に『毎日読みます』、『生まれて初めてのキックボクシング』、『このくらいの距離がちょうどいい』がある(いずれもエッセイ、未邦訳)。
本書が初の長編小説となる。

牧野美加(まきの・みか)
1968年、大阪生まれ。釜慶大学言語教育院で韓国語を学んだ後、新聞記事や広報誌の翻訳に携わる。
第1回「日本語で読みたい韓国の本 翻訳コンクール」最優秀賞受賞。

本屋大賞1位が、書店で目に留まり、Amazonで購入しました。 翻訳の小説を読むのは、久々でした。 内容は韓国の本屋に来る登場人物のエピソードがゆっくりと描かれています。 それぞれの悩み、本当にこれは正しい選択だったのか、と迷いながら生きていく。 現代の人の多くが感じるような悩みをリアルかつ優しく温かく包み込んでくるように話が進みます。 共感しつつ、国籍が違っても悩むことは全世界共通なんだと感じました。 人間関係に悩みを感じる方やモヤモヤがある方、心を穏やかになりたい方にオススメです。

    【本屋大賞　翻訳部門】の2024年、第1位に本書が選ばれたのを知り、それで興味を引かれて手に取り、読みました。

    ヨンジュという女性が立ち上げた〈ヒュナム洞書店〉に灯が点り、店主のヨンジュと彼女の周りに集う人たちのおかげで、次第に居心地の良い、くつろげる空間になっていくところが、胸に沁みました。

    巻末の「作家のことば」に、《映画「かもめ食堂」や「リトル・フォレスト」のような雰囲気の小説を書きたかった。》単行本 p.357　とありますが、まさに、映画「かもめ食堂」を彷彿とさせる居心地の良さ、あたたかな雰囲気を感じました。

    この本を読みながら、仕事のこと、時間のこと、人生のこと、心地よい空間のことなど、色んなことを考えさせられましたね。

    ヨンジュをはじめ、〈ヒュナム洞書店〉を取り巻く登場人物たちの様々な悩みや思いに耳を傾けているひととき。何か気持ちがやすらいで、ほっとした気分になっていました。

    ショートが束なって、長編となっているのでとても読みやすいです。毎日朝、珈琲片手に１話（10ページ程度）読んでます。心がポカポカして、毎日良いスタート切れてます。著者に感謝です。内容は面白い上に、気づきを与えてくれます。こんな本屋があれば、ぜひ毎日足を運びたいです。本苦手な人にもオススメです。本と本屋と珈琲好きには、絶対読んでほしい〜癒しの時間がここにあります。ぜひ、他の作品も読みたいです。

    韓国人の友人にすすめられて読んでみた。

    大げさなドラマはないが、出てくる人物たちや彼らをとりまく環境がとてもリアルで、現代の韓国を描いている。

    過酷な競争社会や労働環境に疲れ仕事を辞めた大人たち、就職を諦めて自由に生きることを選択した若者、未来すら描けず無気力な高校生など、一般的に模範とされている生き方から一歩ふみだした(外れた)人物たちが、町の書店に居場所を見つけ、緩くつながる。

    迷いや不安を抱えつつ、新しい価値観を模索する人物たちが等身大に描かれ、まるで知り合いの話を聞いているようだ。

    文中多くの欧米の書物が引用されているのも興味深い。そういえば韓国映画やドラマでもオマージュは多く、韓国人の教養に対する関心の高さを改めて実感した。

    文芸作品としては未熟、現代の韓国を映すエッセイとして読んだ。

    著者が後書きで日本映画の「かもめ食堂」と「リトル・フォレスト」のような雰囲気の小説を書きたかったと記している。どちらも日本の女性監督の映画なんだけど要するにこの本を読んで浮かぶ光景は女性誌のグラビアのような感じである。登場人物は皆問題を抱えているがそれが劇的に解決するカタルシスはない。でも登場人物がちゃんと前に進む物語である。そういう意味ではいわゆる韓流とは一線を画している。

    この本の背景には韓国社会の凄まじい競争社会がある。本屋の店主である主人公は長時間労働で壊れたことのある人だし本屋の従業員は大学卒業後就職できなかった人である。この本の雰囲気は女性誌のグラビアのように柔らかいが読者は韓国社会の世知辛さを痛感するのではなかろうか。
